Jurassic World Rebirth has almost a completely different ending [Exclusive]

Warning: this article contains major spoilers For the end of “Jurassic World Rebirth”.

Do not unravel a hole in the mythical attraction of the Hollywood blockbuster and leave all the air out of the ball, but big budget films tend to be in a constant state of flow. Marvel’s films have become notorious for this very thing, often entering production without finished scenario and undergoing all kinds of adjustments on the fly, even after filming, it was finished. “Star Wars” has encountered something very similar, the most sadly by making 2016 “Rogue One” and the many troubles of troubles. This trend has even already reached the films “Jurassic”, because the original script of “Jurassic Park III” was mainly thrown out the window of weeks before the start and revision of the main photography.

With “Jurassic World Rebirth”, the hiring of Gareth Edwards as a director is looping. The director “Godzilla” and “Rogue One” knows what it is to meet the challenges of an epic size project which remains unstable until the final cup is locked. “Rebirth” marked a refreshing change in this regard, however, because the writer David Koepp had already submitted his script before Edwards joined the film. However, this does not mean that Dino’s last film did not meet some forks on the road along the way. A particular choice almost led to a very different end – that which would have led to the death of a major character. Another brief moment of indecision could have achieved a perhaps more exciting, but certainly more familiar conclusion from the great threat of dinosaur.

For those who have not yet seen any “renaissance”, consider this your index to get it out of here while we enter a spoiler territory in its own right below.

Jurassic World Rebirth drew two versions from Duncan’s fate, one where he lived and one where he died

“Jurassic World Rebirth” can be much heavier than the character (to find out more, consult my criticism for / film here), but a moment of false in the last act could have been played very differently. The main thrust of history follows the attempts of the whole to survive on this mutant island infested with Dino until a part of rescue reaches them. But not everyone manages to escape unscathed from the so-called distortus Rex, the final boss of the film. In order to save innocent children placed in danger, the mercenary Duncan Kincaid (Mahershala Ali) catches an enlightening rocket and heroically leads the D-Rex. He appears To do for, but his last minute return helps to end the film on a triumphant note.

This was not always the case because it turns out. In an interview with / film, director Gareth Edwards spoke of the end of the “Renaissance” and revealed that a possible version of the events has in fact kept Kincaid dead. By referring to this as his “favorite part” of the film, Edwards highlighted the decision -making process:

“I’m going to tell you, the song we have shot two versions is Kincaid Living and Dying. Basically, the version where he dies, you just don’t have the other piece [where he reappears]. But because that was how it was written to start and we filmed it and did everything as if he was going to die, everything was correct. As a public that you are going: “Oh my God, he will really die, of course, he is”, and then he does. Then, when he is brought back, I think it’s a surprise. Then, I felt like: “Oh no, and if the public thinks that we cut ourselves?” I would remember “and”, which is the version of the masterpiece of this, where I never felt it at all in “and” I felt really sad [laughs] That he had left, then euphoric when he was back. It was a bit like a small version of that, where you pray in a way: “Is the public …?” And then watch it the other night [at the New York premiere]It obtained the best reaction at that time and I really said to myself: “Oh my god, thank God, we turned this version where he lived because it could have been a lower [laughs]. “”

Gareth Edwards explains why Jurassic World Rebirth avoids another climate dinosaurs fight

This explains the human side of the equation, but what about the great ugly mutant dinosaur of all this? The D-Rex was (mainly) kept under the Wraps throughout the marketing, but this ungodly fusion of a grudge and a Giger HR drawing mixed with a T-Rex is finally unleashed in the last sequence of action of the film. “Rebirth” immediately stands out from the various other “Jurassic” films for his choice not To stage a great dino-on-dino fight to conclude things in a neat and well tidy arc. Unlike many of the other suites, Edwards rather focuses on the fate of human characters and finally maintains the D-Rex alive to terrorize the island another day. We interviewed Edwards about the reasoning that has entered this last construction of expectations, instead of giving in to temptation and saving the day (again). According to the director:

“I thought of-who appeared. He did not come on the set, he appeared in post-production where I suddenly, I suppose that I woke up in a cold sweat one night and I said to myself:” Should we, should we raise the T-Rex? “” [laughs] I went the next day and brought it to everyone and I expected everyone to have, “yeahh” [enthusiastically]And it was just a reaction like: “Really? But all the others did it. It reassured me a little like:” Okay, I think we did the right thing. “

But there is this narration thing called [deus] Ex Machina and it’s like Latin, I think, for God to come and save your characters at the end of a story. I think “Jurassic” has this thing called “Rex Machina”, where it’s like T-Rex and saves everyone. I remember [David Vickery]The supervisor of visual effects, he said to himself: “But this is one of the things I loved in this film is that she did not do what others have done” and all this kind of thing. Yeah, you juggle while juggling – there is the right thing here? You try to choose the right path. “”

For a sequel that is so indebted to other films, we agree that it was 100% the right call. And, who knows, maybe it sets up another suite.

“Jurassic World Rebirth” is now playing in theaters.
