After a terrible performance at the box office, the director Luca Guadagninothe controversial new film After the huntdebuted on Prime Video last week, almost as if it were a straight-to-streaming title. The psychological drama immediately took first place in the streamer’s audience rankings, despite receiving rather poor reviews. After the hunt traces the aftermath of a serious accusation made by a student against her professor and investigates ideas of privilege and pretense in the contemporary world. This is Guadagnino’s third film in two years, following the success Challengersand the rather alienating Weird. After the hunt falls somewhere between these films; it’s filled with an all-star cast, but it’s not interested in leaving viewers with easy answers.
According to FlixPatrol, it was the number one film in the Prime Video charts nationally and globally after its debut on the service on Friday. He hit the remaining shot Reading datewith Alan Ritchson And Kevin Jamesup to second place, while pushing out older titles such as Play dirty And Red further down the charts. The film presents Julia Roberts as a senior Yale professor who must decide who, between her protégé and her work husband, is telling the truth. Ayo Edebiri plays the young woman who makes the accusation, while Andrew Garfield plays the seemingly kind young professor accused of committing a terrible act. After the hunt didn’t exactly excite critics, despite its provocative themes.
“After the Hunt” failed at the box office
It now holds a score of 37% on the aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, where the consensus reads: “After the hunt has no shortage of fine performances, particularly from a remarkable Julia Roberts, but its coy follow-up to incendiary themes makes it an unusually toothless provocation from director Luca Guadagnino. ” In its review, Collider’s Nathan Richard wrote that the film “features terrific performances from Roberts and Garfield, but even they aren’t enough to keep the film from being too muddled and morally ambiguous for its own good.” After the hunt received a suitable version from Amazon, but it generated less than $10 million at the box office against a budget which would have reached 80 million dollars.
