“ Julia Ducournau of Titanium, shocks Cannes like ‘Alpha’ obtains a huge ovation

The director of “Titane”, Julia Ducournau, made a triumphant return to Cannes on Monday evening with her new feature film “Alpha”. The mother-daughter infection thriller obtained an enthusiastic ovation of 11.5 minutes after its first – One of the most brilliant receptions to date at the this year’s film festival. While the applause raged, Ducournau became visibly emotional, wiping tears and making a heart with his hands as a sign of gratitude.

The first of “alpha” was faced with a brief interruption when, about an hour in the film’s execution time, the participants of the balcony began to agitate their pocket lamps. Some public members have shouted for a doctor in French, asking that the projection be interrupted. Paramedical paramedics finally arrived and, shortly after, a member of the public was carried out on a stretcher. The projection of “alpha” continued without stopping over the incident.

We still do not know what the cause of medical emergency was. The incident did not seem to be linked to the content of the Ducournau film, which had not yet represented particularly shocking equipment by this part of its script. Variety contacted the festival’s press office for more information.

“Alpha” features the regulars of Cannes Golshifteh Farahani and Tahar Rahim in front of the favorite of “sex education” Emma Mackey and Finnegan Oldfield. The intrigue focuses on the main character, a 13 -year -old in difficulty living with his single mother. According to the Synopsis of Cannes: “Their world collapses the day it comes back from school with a tattoo on her arm.”

Ducournau is already a manufacturer of Cannes history thanks to his last effort as director, “Titane”. The psychological drama of body horror was one of the most provocative titles of the 2021 festival and received the Palme d’Or by the jury led by Spike Lee. Ducournau became only the second director to win the first Cannes prize. “Alpha” marks the third functionality of the director. Its beginnings, the Cannibal 2016 “RAW” adolescence thriller was presented in Cannes in the sidebar of criticism.

When Ducournau accepted the Palme d’Or in 2021, she recalled her joy to watch the canes every year when she was a child: “At that time, I was sure that all the films rewarded had to be perfect because they were on stage. And tonight, I’m on the same scene, but I know that my film is not perfect – but I think that no film is perfect in the eyes of the person who did it.

“Alpha” marks the second competition title of Ducournau de Ducournau. Neon, who distributed “titanium”, is again partnering the filmmaker for the “Alpha” release.
