Madonna Biopic still lit, says Julia Garner

Hollywood is hung on Madonna, but a biopic remains a frozen secret. Anyway, the life of the legendary singer will end up calibration – although it first arrives at the small or large screen is still to be determined. This week, the star of “weapons” Julia Garner – who was announced playing in a Madonna film in 2022 – confirmed on the “smartless” podcast which, despite the opposite reports, the “Like a Virgin” project is still very in gestation.

“It’s supposed to happen,” she said (via variety). Garner was to play alongside Julia Fox, who would play Madonna Bff and the co-star of the music video Debi Mazar. Fox spoke with Indiewire in 2024 of the shelves reported from the film by Universal, seeming just as ambiguous.

“I know it was going to be a tour or a film, then she went on tour,” said Fox. “So, I don’t know when the film will resume or when they will start working again. But I haven’t heard anything. I don’t really know … I want to say, I would still like to do it, but I really don’t know. They come back, you know, when they go to 19 years and they meet for the first time. I feel like I have already aged this cast, but we will see.”

On Smartless, Garner said she was enthusiastic about taking Madonna because she “just wanted to see if [she] could do it. The film was – or is – To be led by the “Vogue” icon itself, for whom Garner auditioned. “I was not a qualified dancer and I had to learn to dance and then dance in front of her and convince her that I can dance, basically and sing … and sing with her!” Garner linked.

Madonna shared on Instagram a year ago that she was still working on the script. “I need Bandz’s A-Lot to do that ……… ..okay,” she wrote, adding: “History of my life”.

The film, however, is not Madonna’s only story in works. In May, Deadline revealed that a Netflix series is planned – and Garner has a long history with the streamer, remaining a pillar with “Ozark”, “Inventing Anna” and a next limited series on the cryptovirency Exchange FTX. Madonna’s TV show would be produced by the star of the “A League of their own”, alongside the EP “Stranger Things” Shawn Levy.

Whether it is a series or a film, the story of Madonna would be the last biography of Boomer artist in what has become a reliable genre adapted to the awards. Just last season, Timothee Chalamet obtained a sign of Oscar’s head as a Bob Dylan in “A Complete Unconnom”, while Kingsley Ben-Adir also obtained stellar opinions for his representation of Bob Marley. In recent years, Austin Butler has been nominated for his role in and as “Elvis”, and Rami Malek won the Academy Prize for playing Freddie Mercury in “Bohemian Rhapsody”. This does not even start to approach the documents of Boots artists – like the “Linda Ronstadt, winner of a Grammy ,:” Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice “or the” The Beatles: Get Back “, led by Peter Jackson.

As for Madonna, when all that it becomes will happen will remain uncertain. After all, life is a mystery, as it told us in “like a prayer”. Each time a film falls, however, Garner assures that it will be worth it. “Everything that is great … takes a long time,” she said.
