Journey through Dubai’s road closures and fireworks

Phased road closures in downtown Dubai

RTA has announced phased road closures to ensure smooth traffic flow:

  • From 4 p.m.: Al Asayel Street, Al Mustaqbal Street, Lower Financial Center Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard, Burj Khalifa Street

  • From 8 p.m.: Al Multaqa Street (Al Mulook)

  • From 9 p.m.: Upper Financial Center Road

  • From 11 p.m.: Partial closure of Sheikh Zayed Road

Motorists are advised to plan ahead and take alternative routes.

Step by step guide for gradual road closures around Burj Khalifa for New Year’s Eve:

48 fireworks at 40 sites

48 shows in 40 venues including Burj Khalifa, Downtown Dubai, Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Festival City, Dubai Creek Harbour, Bluewaters, Burj Al Arab, Expo City Dubai, Global Village, Atlantis The Palm and Palm Jebel Ali. Wide distribution reduces crowd density and improves safety.

Free public parking

Dubai Metro and Tram

  • The metro runs continuously for 43 hours during the New Year period; additional services at key stations near the celebration locations.

  • The tram operates for extended hours.

  • The Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro may close from 5 p.m. if its capacity is exceeded. Commuters are advised to use nearby stations (Financial Center or Business Bay stations) that have parking facilities.

Alternative parking and closures

  • Available at Al Wasl Club, Al Kifaf, Dubai Mall, Zabeel – Dubai Mall, Fountain View extensions, Boulevard Lower.

  • Parking prohibited on main roads near celebration areas.

Free shuttles and taxis

  • RTA will operate buses from event locations to subway stations and parking areas after the celebrations; Taxis available.

  • Free buses from Swissôtel Al Murooj to Al Wasl and Al Kifaf club.

Public buses

  • Check the timetables via the S’hail application.

  • The E100 route suspended from the afternoon of December 31, resumes on January 4.

  • Route E101 recommended for travel to Abu Dhabi;

  • The E102 route continues from 2 p.m. on December 31.
