Liverpool was very busy during the 2025 summer transfer window, and this could be more or more of the same thing in 2026. A number of large -scale outings were presented at the time, and one of them could be Andy Robertson.

Robertson was strongly linked to a move to Atletico Madrid in summer, but in the end, he stayed in Anfield. However, the Liga giants remain interested in the defender, who is still nine months old on his current contract.

There are a lot of doubts about Robertson’s continuity in Liverpool, especially since he is no longer considered the starter on the left. But at the very least, he will stay at the club until the end of his current agreement.

According to the initiate of football, Pete O’Rourke revealed that Atletico did not plan to sign Robertson when the transfer window will reopen in January, although they can seek to conclude a pre-contract agreement with the Scottish international.

“Listen, I don’t see Atletico Madrid returning to Robertson in January. They signed Matteo Ruggeri from Atalanta in summer. So they also have Javi Galan on the left back. So, I do not imagine that they will be on the market for Robertson in January.

“But look, if he does not soon sign a new contract, he can speak to foreign clubs interested in January and then go for free transfer. But I am sure that Liverpool does not want to lose Robertson because I always think he has a role to play in Anfield.”

It will be interesting to see if Robertson leaves Liverpool next summer. Milos Kerkez would succeed him to the undisputed left back if this is the case, although a replacement would always be necessary – unless it is decided only the Tsimikas back Kostas would be the successor of the Scottish.
