Jon M. Chu signs first deal with Paramount Pictures

Jon M. Chu has signed a three-year debut production deal with Paramount to develop and produce feature film and television projects for the studio. The agreement comes into force on January 2sd2026. As part of the deal, Chu and his production company will be based on the Paramount lot and will work closely with Paramount Pictures co-chairmen Dana Goldberg and Josh Greenstein, Motion Picture Group chairman Don Granger and Paramount Television Studios president Matt Thunell.
More recently, Chu has directed Villain: for good, which opened in November and now holds the record for the largest global opening ever for a film based on a Broadway show, and the second largest domestic box office opening in 2025.
Chu also directed Wickedthe first installment of the two-part adaptation of the record-breaking Broadway musical. Released in 2024, the film became the highest-grossing film adaptation of a Broadway musical ever, grossing over $756 million worldwide and garnering widespread critical acclaim.
Chu previously led the global phenomenon Crazy Rich Asianswhich became the highest-grossing romantic comedy in nearly a decade upon its release and a watershed moment for Asian and Asian American representation in Hollywood. The film received widespread critical acclaim and was nominated for several awards, including the Critics’ Choice Awards, SAG Awards, Golden Globes and PGA Awards.
