John Stamos replaces Josh Gad as an patient in “Jesus Christ Superstar”

John Stamos slips into the golden slippers of King Herod a few hours before the curtain rises Jesus Christ superstar at Hollywood Bowl.
The last -minute casting of Stamos comes after Josh Gad announced yesterday that he would no longer occupy the throne on Friday evening.
“It is with a huge sorrow that I all inform you that, unfortunately, I contracted a virus known as Covid (remember this little bastard of season one of” Earth Sucks at the moment “?)”, Wrote Gad on Instagram.
Stamos is not only a pretty face. Beyond his actor chops, he has been a musician for decades, playing the most with the Beach Boys regularly. He also participated in the Renaissance of Broadway in Bye bye Birdie and played Corny Collins in Bedside to the bowl in 2011.
“I am grateful to have the chance to enter the Gold Lamé,” said Stamos on Instagram. “It is an honor. A dream. And also a little crazy because … I just left a plane on the tour of @Thebeachboys in Spain and I have less than 24 hours to succeed. ”
King Herod was played by Paul Ainsley in the original Broadway production of 1971 and by Josh Mossel in the 1973 film. Alice Cooper rocked the role of the 2018 live concert version of NBC of musical comedy.
For this weekend bowl show, Cynthia Erivo was launched in the eponymous biblical role in February, when the staging of Andrew Lloyd Webber and the musical of Tim Rice was announced from August 1 to 3. Adam Lambert was then interpreted as Judas, with Milo Manheim and Raúl Esparza also joining the cast as Peter and Pontius Pilate. Phillipa Soo will play Mary Magdalene.
Made and choreographed by the winner of Tony Trujillo, the Hollywood Bowl Jesus Christ superstar will be directed and managed by music by Stephen Oremus (who worked on the versions of Broadway and Cinematographic Wicked). The show is produced in association with Neil Méron and Robert Greenblatt.
