Johan Oviedo, Tommy Pham propels the pirates in front of Jays

Johan Oviedo withdrew six fits into five rounds and combined with three lifers out of a three strikers, leading the Pirates Pittsburgh hosts to a 2-1 victory on the Blue Jays in Toronto on Wednesday afternoon.

OVIEDO (1-0) won his first victory since September 21, 2023 while making his second start of the season after his return from Tommy John Surgery.

OVIEDO lasted only one round and granted two points on two strokes during its first release on August 4 before being optionized in Triple-A Indianapolis. He behaved much better on Wednesday, giving a point on two strokes and a walk before leaving 75 throws.

Kyle Nicolas, Isaac Mattson and Dennis Santana have combined to allow only one blow on four goalless sleeves. Santana withdrew the team from the ninth round to record its ninth stop.

Oviedo’s only expensive error came against the first striker he faced: George Springer.

Springer crowned a 10 -step stroke by surrounding his 21st season’s 21st circuit to give Toronto the early advantage.

OVIEDO recovered and finished the first round on 22 throws after having removed the following three strikers in order, including with the stick withdraws from Bo Bichette and Alejandro Kirk.

Pittsburgh responded immediately with a rally of two outings at the bottom of the first, ignited by the double starter of Bryan Reynolds, Chris Bassitt (11-7).
