“Do you think I’m responsible for his death?” “My father thinks so.” Sony Pictures Classics has revealed an official US trailer for a playful French black comedy titled A private lifethe latest from the award-winning French filmmaker Rebecca Zlotowski following his last film Other people’s children recently. It premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, then played at almost every other major festival in the fall, including TIFF and NYFF. A dashing, feminine film noir about psychoanalysis and more… Now set to hit theaters in the United States starting January 2026. Renowned psychiatrist Lilian Steiner (Jodie Foster in a kinetic performance) is deeply troubled by the sudden death of one of her patients. Convinced that it is a murder, she decides to investigate. With Jodie Foster speaking French, this half English/half French film also stars Daniel Auteuil, Virginie Efira, Matthew Amalric, Vincent Lacoste& Luana Bajrami. This received mostly positive reviews saying it’s a bit fuzzy but still has “a clear Hitchcockian spirit, [and] flows with the elegance, fascination and precision of the best examples of the genre. “It looks like there are at least a few intriguing twists and turns with a lighter tone for this kind of story. It’s worth a look.

American psychologist Lilian Steiner (Jodie Foster) lived in Paris for many years and made a name for herself. When one of her longtime patients dies under mysterious circumstances, she is deeply shocked. Was it really a suicide, as the police say? Had she not listened to her patient enough and missed the warning signs? With her ex-husband (Daniel Auteuil), she begins to investigate on her own and tries to find answers using hypnosis. But when a burglary occurs in his office, his own life begins to spiral out of control.
