Jim Jarmusch “ disappointed ” by the bonds of the co -producer of “father sister” Mubi with the Israeli defense investor Sequoia, the Israeli defense investor

Jim Jarmusch said he was “disappointed and disconcerted” to learn that Mubi, the distributor and stream of Art-Streaming who co-produced “father Mother Sister Brother”, had accepted $ 100 million in Sequoia Capital funding, the venture capital company of Silicon Valley with an participation in an Israulian startup-technique.

“My relationship with Mubi started a lot before that, and they were fantastic to work with the film,” Jarmusch told Venice Film Festival journalists, where the film was created on Sunday. “Yes, I was worried. I was disappointed and disconcerted by this relationship. If you want to discuss it, you have to contact Mubi. I’m not the spokesperson.”

The association has aroused demonstrations of artists who accuse Sequoia of “profit of the genocide” in Gaza. Dozens of filmmakers with links with Mubi have signed an open letter urging the company to reconsider its partnership with Sequoia and publicly condemn its investment in a defense technology startup founded by Israeli intelligence units after the terrorist attacks on October 7.

The founder of Mubi has rejected, claiming that “any suggestion that our work is linked to the financing of the war is simply false”.

Jarmusch said his priority remained making films, even if funding can be morally complicated.

“I am an independent filmmaker and I took money from various sources to finance my films,” he said. “All the money of the company is dirty. If you start to analyze each of these cinema companies and their financing structures, you will find a lot of dirt. You can avoid it and not make films at all. But the films are how I wear what I like.”

He added: “One thing I don’t like is to put the burden of explanation on us, artists. It’s not us.”

The distribution member Indya Moore also discussed the controversy, saying that there is “an incredible quantity of creative war and the war of the behind the scenes” of Hollywood.

“People are trying to know how to work in an ethical capacity and not allow. I think the type of reasonable diligence that people are trying to do is a development process,” said Moore.

“Père Mère Sister Brother”, brings Jarmusch to Venice for the first time since “Coffee & Cigarettes” in 2003. The triptych explores relations between adult children and their parents through three floors in New Jersey, Dublin and Paris. The cast includes Cate Blanchett, Adam Driver, Vicky Krieps, Mayim Bialik, Charlotte Rampling, Moore and Luka Sabbat.
