Anthony Bernal, a former chief of staff to Jill Biden, invoked the fifth amendment several times during a closed -door testing before the Chamber’s supervisory committee, President James Comer said on Wednesday.
Bernal, long -standing advisor to the former first lady, refused to answer the legislators’ questions during the session, according to the declaration of Commer on X. “This week, the new reports confirm that the assistants of President Biden took unauthorized executive actions during his presidency in the middle of his cognitive decline,” said Commer. “It is not surprising that Anthony Bernal pleads the fifth amendment to protect herself from criminal responsibility.”

“During his testimony today, Mr. Bernal pleaded the fifth when he was asked if an official or unaduminated family members performed the functions of the president and if Joe Biden has ever asked him to lie on his health,” he continued. “It is a historic scandal and the Americans demand transparency and responsibility. We will continue to continue the truth on their behalf and examine the options to get the answers we need. ”

Bernal previously refused to appear for an interview scheduled for June 26, part of the commission’s investigation into an alleged abusive use of the Presidential Autopen and other actions of the staff of former President Joe Biden. Comment assigned him to appear after jumping the interview.
His refusal to answer questions on Wednesday intervened only a week after Dr. Kevin O’Connor, the former doctor of Biden, also invoked the fifth before the committee.
In a separate exchange, the former DNC vice-president David Hogg told a journalist for the Veritas infiltration project that Bernal exerted a considerable influence within the Biden administration and described the real problem as the president’s inner insular circle.
