Jeremy Renner loses control at Kingstown

Warning! This article contains MAJOR SPOILERS for Mayor of Kingstown Season 4, Episode 1.Mayor of Kingstown season 4 kicks off with a powerful first episode that could see Mike McLusky struggling to maintain the delicate balance of his community. Taylor Sheridan and Hugh Dillon’s tense crime drama brings a very different version of Kingstown to its fourth season.

After the high-octane finale of Season 3, with the deaths of major players in the Russian mafia, the former guard of Anchor Bay brutally murdered inside the prison, and Kyle shooting Robert on the bridge, the fallout is finally explored this season. The series picks up a few weeks after the previous finale and things are already out of control.

A new gang arrives in Kingstown with a brutal display of power

The episode opens with a mysterious new character, Frank Moses, played by the enigmatic Lennie James, lining up several thugs on a train track, before the train arrives. Clearly, Frank is poised to become a major player this season, and his arrival makes it clear that he means business.

This scene also makes it clear that just because Konstantin and Milo finally left the set, doesn’t mean things have truly calmed down in Kingstown. If anything, things are likely to get worse as gangs fight to fill the power vacuum.

Kyle is sent to Anchor Bay

After the opening credits, Mike McLusky is in his office with his brother Kyle and a lawyer. Obviously, Kyle is charged and sent to prison for his role in the events on the bridge. Mayor of Kingstown season 3 finale where he shot Robert Sawyer.

As a police officer, this is an incredibly dangerous position for Kyle, and as a husband and father of a newborn, it’s going to be extremely difficult from six months to two years. However, Mike intends to do everything he can to protect his brother once inside.

Nina Hobbs introduces herself as the new director

Potentially putting a damper on these works in a major way, Nina Hobbs, played by Edie Falco, is the new prison warden. Hobbs appears to be a problem solver who is assigned to difficult prisons to make things right. She is joined by an intimidating assistant manager and new employees at Anchor Bay.

During her first meeting with her staff, she also states that she will not tolerate corruption or insubordination. She also seems extremely insightful, recognizing a number of issues which she quickly addresses and establishing her power and position.

Mike meets with the principal to protect his brother

Mike meets with Hobbs to ask him to protect his brother and keep him excluded from the other prisoners. Hobbs assures Mike that he will not die on her watch, but she also makes it clear that she has no intention of making deals like her predecessors.

This is a major obstacle for Mike, as he is used to being kept in the loop and checked in by the warden in order to help him keep the peace outside the prison walls. Mike will either have to gain Hobbs’ trust and support or find another way to deal with the problems in Kingstown.

Trouble is brewing inside the prison

Meanwhile, inside the prison walls, Raphael Johnson, the Crips gang member who leads the team inside the prison, has a difficult encounter with Roberto Cruz, another gang leader. While the Crips are used to being in a position of authority and power, Cruz seems to challenge Raph in a way that makes him nervous.

It appears that Roberto has knowledge of outside events that Raph and Bunny, the leader of the Crips, may not be privy to. Raph delivers his report, but it’s only the beginning of a much bigger problem to come regarding the gang war in Kingstown.

Bunny is attacked in the middle of the streets

After Bunny receives an update from Raph, he is targeted and attacked by a rival gang. This attack took place in broad daylight, in the middle of the street. This shows how brazen the opposing gang is and their intentions to wipe Bunny off the board.

Bunny manages to survive thanks to his safety and they come out the other side. However, this certainly isn’t the last time Bunny’s life is in danger. Mayor of Kingstown season 4.

Mike McLusky and Evelyn Foley fell out

Mike is accustomed to approaching issues from all angles, with strong relationships with gangs and law enforcement. However, his relationship with Evelyn Foley deteriorated significantly due to her involvement in keeping Kyle locked in prison.

It turned out that Evelyn was working hard to secure a conviction against Robert Sawyer, who frequently used excessive force and killed people in the line of duty. But to get to him, she tries to pressure Kyle and force him to make a deal to guarantee his freedom. Kyle chose to protect Robert.

This is largely due to the high likelihood that Robert will turn on the others and create a much bigger problem. But for Mike, this has led to the breakdown of his relationship with Evelyn, the assistant district attorney, which will likely make dealing with things much more difficult.

Kyle is brutally beaten in prison

Upon arrival at Anchor Bay, Kyle is greeted with screams and jeers from the inmates, before a prisoner manages to reach him and brutally beat him with a sock lock. Kyle suffers some broken bones, but he can’t go to the infirmary for fear of being attacked there as well.

Then, as he suffers in his cell, he hears Callaghan, the leader of the Aryan Brotherhood, speaking to him from the next cell. This could very well indicate that Kyle experienced a similar prison journey to Mike, who joined the Aryan Brotherhood to survive while he was inside.

With so much in the works for what’s to come Mayor of Kingstown season 4, it’s bound to be another eventful season.
