Five main reasons for concern for dolphins before the regular season of 2025

The start of the NFL 2025 regular season is now in a week, and there is a lot of mystery surrounding the dolphins of Miami.

The national expectations are quite low, in particular for a team that made the playoffs in 2022 and 2023 and was in the running until the last week of 2024 despite the six departures of QB Tua Tagovailo.

Before the opening of the season of September 7 against the Indianapolis colts at Lucas Oil Stadium, there are several reasons for optimism and we have examined those in a previous story.

Now is the time to look at five reasons for concern:

We hate continuing to harass injuries, but it is a sad fact of life with regard to dolphins because the season of each team can be derailed by injuries, it’s just that Miami enters the season with more sustainability problems than most. We don’t really need to review the list of frontal players with sustainability problems, but for rigor, we have killed, Tyreek Hill, Austin Jackson, Jaelan Phillips, Bradley Chubb, and that does not mention James Daniels who comes out of a torn Achilles tendon. These are a lot of important players, with the quarter-arre starting up, and not necessarily ideal for a team with a dubious depth.

Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa will seek to play a full season for the second time in his career in the NFL.

YEP, it was also one of the concerns last year. There are absolutely reasons to believe that the offensive line of 2025 can make a major step, but it will depend on Jackson and Daniels in health (see concern 1), as well as Patrick Paul taking his strong pre-season and his training camp in the regular season while he replaces Terron Armstead in the left tackle. Oh, and there is also the question of whether Jonah Savaiaea can do the work as a recruit. So, yes, there are many questioning points on the offensive line, and it is even before discussing the question of depth.

In the past decade, the Dolphins Secondary presented at least half a pro Bowl corner, whether Brent Grimes, Xavien Howard or Jalen Ramsey, but the 2025 group does not present this type of player. The most proven player in the position group is Rasul Douglas, but he is 30 years old, leaving a season below the card and was signed just a few days ago. The dolphins hope that young players like Storm Duck, Jason Marshall Jr. and Jack Jones Jr. will be able to offer passes in defense, but the lack of stories made of this group a clear question mark.

There are several reasons why the Dolphins failed to make the playoffs in 2024, and the one that stands at the top or near the top was the lack of explosive games in attack, which forced the offensive to long journeys, which always leads to more opportunities for offensive errors. Yes, not having Tagovailoa in the quarter-Arrière for six games and more in this department, but even after his return, the big games were still not there. We have heard over and over again the reason being that the defenses take turns from the line with their safety, except that the defenses did not make very differently in 2022 and 2023 and that the explosive games were not as much a problem at the time. Being able to get these scores or big games would be a major help for attacking dolphins, as it is still not built to remove it for 60 minutes.

Dolphins have absolutely done the right thing in moving their goal this year of veterans at high prices to a young nucleus which could become the foundation of the team for the years to come. And the first yields are indeed very promising with regard to recruits like Kenneth Grant, Jonah Savaiaea, Ollie Gordon II, Jason Marshall Jr., Jordan Phillips and new starters like Patrick Paul and Storm Duck. But the dolphins seem to have that they will count on many young players to play key roles, and the reality is that we simply do not know what things will look like in the regular season because it is a different ball game from the pre-season.
