Jennifer Lawrence Understands Why She Was Disliked Because of Her Personality: ‘This Person is Boring’

Jennifer Lawrence somehow understands the backlash and hatred she received early in her career — and not because of her films, but because of her personality.

During her New Yorker profile, “The Hunger Games” star recalled how audiences initially loved her personality in interviews — but then turned against her after deciding she was fake. Lawrence explained that while that was who she really was at the time, it was also a “defense mechanism.”

“So hyper. So embarrassing,” Lawrence said. “Well, that is, or was, my true personality, but it was also a defense mechanism. And so it was a defense mechanism, just like, ‘I’m not like that! I poop my pants every day!'”

She continued, “I watch these interviews, and this person is annoying. I understand why seeing this person everywhere would be annoying. Ariana Grande’s impression of me on ‘SNL’ was perfect. I felt – I didn’t feel, I was, I think – rejected, not for my films, not for my politics, but for me, for my personality.”

At the height of this popularity, Lawrence was stalked by paparazzi throughout Los Angeles. Between that and all the press she was getting for her various projects, the adrenaline kept her up at night because she felt like she was being “chased.”

The SNL skit Lawrence mentioned happened in 2016. In it, guest Ariana Grande played an enhanced version of her on “Celebrity Family Feud” and lambasted her personality as the rest of the Internet began to spin.

“I’m just a snack junkie,” Grande said. “I mean, I love Pringles. If no one’s watching, I’ll eat a whole can.”

Lawrence will next be seen in “Die, My Love” which hits theaters on November 7. The film is produced by Martin Scorsese.
