Jennifer Fox to produce the AMPAS Governors Awards

Jennifer Fox, Governor of the Academy Producers Branch, will return to produce the 16th Governors Awards for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, taking place on November 16. This will be the seventh time Fox has produced the event.
“Jennifer’s expertise in producing the Governors Awards is unmatched. We are thrilled to welcome her back to kick off our 98th Academy Awards with a celebration of four truly remarkable winners,” Academy President Howell Taylor said in a statement.
This year’s Honorary Oscars will go to Debbie Allen, Tom Cruise and Wynn Thomas, while the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award will go to Dolly Parton. The event will take place at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Ovation Hollywood.

‘Cover-Up,’ ‘A Life Illuminated’ and More Short Films Added to Doc Stories Festival Lineup
“Ask E. Jean,” “The Bend in the River,” “Divers” and “They Eyes of Ghana” are among 10 feature films and 12 short films that will be screened at the 11th annual San Francisco International Film Festival, Doc Stories, at the Vogue Theater in San Francisco, November 6-9.
The four-day event will bring together established and emerging filmmakers to celebrate non-fiction films. The short film “Cover-Up” will open the festival.
The celebration will include screenings of “In My Day,” “My Mom Jayne,” “Newport & The Great Folk Dream,” “Powwow People,” “Put Your Soul in Your Hand and Walk,” Shorts Block: New York Times Op-Docs, “Short Block: Spaces of Resistance,” “The Tale of Silyan,” “S the Wolf,” among others.
A screening of “An Illuminated Life” will close the festival.
The San Francisco International Film Festival will also host an event called Doc Congress, which will bring together documentary industry professionals, funders and filmmakers for dialogue and will include a keynote address from Lois Vossen, the founding executive producer of “Independent Lens” on PBS.
The festival will also feature a workshop for young filmmakers called “Teen Workshop: Documentary Filmmaking and Creating Understanding.”
Tickets go on sale for San Francisco International Film Festival members on October 15 at 10 a.m. at sffilm.org, with sales opening for the general public on October 17 at 10 a.m.
Students and teachers receive free access to a festival program specially designed by the festival’s longtime education team, called Schools at Doc Stories.

IDA and Manhattan Neighborhood Network launch partnership
The International Documentary Association and Manhattan Neighborhood Network have formed a partnership that will allow both organizations access to each other’s events, facilities and communities. Established in 1992, MNN is a media learning, production and distribution center with facilities including virtual production studios, two podcast studios, six open editing stations, three enclosed editing suites and an enclosed screening room featuring a DCP 4K projector, a 193″ screen with surround sound, live streaming and recording capabilities. On September 20, the IDA members residing in or visiting New York will have full access to all MNN amenities free of charge or at a reduced rate.
As part of this partnership, all MNN members will receive a 20% discount on IDA memberships. The IDA will also hold quarterly showings of work in progress so that IDA members can show their work to other members and their guests to receive feedback. The first IDA Docs-In-Progress event will take place on November 13.
