Before winning his role of escape on Abbott ElementaryJanelle James had set himself on another show.
The candidate for the Golden Globe recently revealed that she had auditioned once for Netflix SHINE (2017-19) A role that she is still “so salty” that she has not landed, almost five years after the streamer has not given up the series for a fourth and last season in the middle of the Pandemic Covid-19.
“I haven’t thought about it for a while,” she prefaced the Let’s talk about the camera podcast. “Another thing I was excited that I auditioned for once SHINE. Do you remember it? The female struggle.
Created by Liz Flame and Carly Mensch, SHINE (Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling) was inspired by the syndicated female wrestling show of the 80s of the same name, with Alison Brie, Betty Gilpin and a talented set led by women in difficulty who auditioned for the wrestling show.
“I really wanted this role,” she told the host Kelly Ripa. “It was for one of the wrestling women and we had to invent a rap from the 80s and play it in hearing, and also make a fighting scene with ourselves. I made this rap and then I kicked. And I remember let this hearing like “I nailed it”. And did not get this role.

James added: “I didn’t watch a second of this show. I’m so salty. Maybe I’m going to watch it today.”
The actor is probably not as salty as fans of the show, after Netflix renewed it for a fourth and last season in 2019, the shooting of two episodes before the streamer inverted his renewal, explaining the pandemic which made the “shooting of this physically intimate program with its particularly difficult overall distribution”.
