Jamie Carragher says that the Liverpool star is the “Thierry Henry” of his position

The highest praise that anyone in the Premier League can receive is a comparison with Thierry Henry. The legend of Arsenal is one, if not the greatest players in the history of the competition. He arrived in northern London as a young player who first found it difficult against the physicity of English football. Years later, however, he left as an invincible icon.

Even in the Manchester City era of Pep Guardiola and Liverpool of Jurgen Klopp, it is difficult to place anyone above Henry.

The former striker is, of course, so often the speech of northern London, but what makes him so special is how the rival clubs also speak of his greatness.

The former Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho, was among those who speak so strongly about Henry over the years, telling journalists once: “This is the kind of player you need forever, especially in the Premier League where he was more than any other place.

“He was fine in Barcelona and in the national team (France), but the real Thierry Henry, the player we are all missing forever, is the one who has made incredible seasons and an incredible story in the Premier League.”

There have also been many players to receive comparisons with the former Gunner. The record signature of Liverpool, Alexander Isak, is often compared to style French, but it remains to be seen if the Swedish can match his inheritance when everything is said and done.

That said, it is not Isak that the legend of Liverpool Jamie Carragher decided to compare himself with the legend of Arsenal. Instead, he appointed another player who, according to him, is the Henry of his position.

Carragher: Van Dijk is the “Henry of central defenders”

Speaking on CBS’s coverage of the Champions League after Liverpool’s late victory against Atletico Madrid, Carragher said that Virgil Van Dijk is the “Henry of central defenders” in the most praise praise he could offer to the Dutchman. Fresh with a winning goal against Atletico, it is clear to see why the Reds skipper was compared to a player from the Henry class.

“He will be one of the biggest players to play for Liverpool. Not one of the greatest central defenders, one of the greatest players. He is the Thierry Henry of the central defenders of the Premier League.”

With two Premier League titles, a medal in the Champions League and everything else, it is difficult to challenge Carragher’s declaration. Van Dijk is imperative and undoubtedly ages as a good wine in the heart of the bottom line of Arne Slot.

Virgil-Van-Dijk-1

For all the impressive expenses of Liverpool in summer, its best offer may well be the new contract of their captain. Renewing alongside Mohamed Salah, Van Dijk has set the tone for what would happen and can now harvest the rewards to do so. Another League title would of course take Dutch above Henry.
