James Van Der Beek Auctions Dawson’s Creek Items for Cancer Bills

James Van Der Beek has opened up his treasure trove of career memorabilia to raise money for his fight against cancer.

The 48-year-old actor will auction off treasured items from his personal collection from “Dawson’s Creek” and “Varsity Blues” as part of Propstore’s Winter Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction.

The “Dawson’s Creek” star was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer last year. All proceeds from the auction will be donated to Van Der Beek to help cover the medical costs of his treatment. The actor is also the father of six children aged 3 to 14.

This auction is the first time that the actor has published wardrobe, accessories or sets from his projects. The items include the necklace Dawson gave Joey (Katie Holmes) for prom, which is expected to sell for between $26,000 and $52,000, according to People. The actor will also auction off his outfit from the pilot episode of “Dawson’s Creek,” including his signature flannel. The auction will feature other items from the series that aired on the WB for six seasons.

“I’ve been storing these treasures for years, waiting for the right moment to do something with them, and with all the unexpected twists and turns life has presented recently, it’s clear the time is right,” Van Der Beek said.

His “Varsity Blues” cleats and West Canaan Coyotes hat will also be auctioned December 5-7. The actor said that while he was nostalgic to part with these items, he was happy that they were finding a home with fans through Propstore’s auction.

Bidding for these items will take place in person in London on December 6th and global bidding will be available until December 7th.

Van Der Beek first announced his cancer diagnosis in December last year, after undergoing treatment privately for some time. According to the U.S. National Cancer Institute, more than 90% of people treated for early-stage colorectal cancer survive at least five years after diagnosis.

The actor will return to the screen later this month in an upcoming Tubi film “Sidelined: The QB and Me,” released November 29. He had to cancel a planned reunion for “Dawson’s Creek” due to a stomach virus, but he sent Lin Manuel Miranda and a video in his absence.
