Eric Adams abandons the race at New York town hall

Eric Adams left his re -election offer on Saturday, ending his campaign for the mayor of New York while he was going wrong in the polls behind the socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani and the former governor Andrew Cuomo.

The besieged mayor announced his withdrawal through a video declaration after weeks of increasing pressure from the party initiates who feared that a divided land put back victory in Mamdani in November.

“It was an honor to be your mayor,” said Adams in the announcement. “Although our successes … I know that I cannot continue my campaign.” (Related: the inner circle of Trump would have spoken to Eric Adams of the role of the administrator if he ends the re -election offer)

Adams sat in fourth place in recent polls, far behind the precursor Mamdani, Cuomo and the Republican Curtis Sliwa. His decision comes after the Ministry of Justice of President Trump rejected federal corruption accusations against him earlier this year.

The mayor faced an indictment of five charges last September for corruption and fraud. Prosecutors accused him of accepting more than $ 100,000 in contributions to the illegal campaign and the benefits of travel from foreign nationals requesting an influence, including Turkish officials.

“Many are skeptical of me after my historical indictment,” admitted Adams in his video message.

Despite the suspension of his campaign, Adams will remain on the ballot of November 4 alongside his compatriot Jim Walden. Neither can delete their names at this stage.

Adams refused to approve the remaining candidates. He took veiled fire in Mamdani and Cuomo, warning voters against radical ideologies in local government and candidates who modify positions on issues.

“I want to be clear, although this is the end of my campaign, it will not be the end of my public service,” said Adams. “I will continue to fight for our city, whatever happens because I am New York.”
