The reported structure of the series presents an interesting storytelling opportunity for DC Studios. By The Hollywood Reporterthe show will be a documentary-style series focusing on Jimmy Olsen investigating different villains in the DC Universe. The first season of the series is expected to focus on Flash villain Gorilla Grodd.

By exploring different villains from the DC Universe, the series can quickly expand the DCU’s villain population without needing different multi-million dollar superhero films to establish them over the course of many years. That’s not to say there’s anything negative about the slow growth of a franchise. It’s just a curious strategy that can allow DC Studios to populate its franchise relatively quickly. Of course, this depends on how successful the series is once released.

Although Jimmy Olsen’s series does not yet have a release date, the character will likely return in The man of tomorrow. The film arrives in theaters on July 9, 2027.
