Jackie Chan by becoming “Asian Robert de Niro”, Bowling with Bruce Lee

Hong Kong and the Global Jackie Chan film icon received a career leopard prize on Saturday evening and an enthusiastic reception at the 78th edition of the Locarno film festival in Switzerland. And Sunday morning, the legendary multi-hyphenate shared information on his career at a conference at the festival which attracted a big crowd that started aligning itself in front of the cinema well in advance.

Chan remembers having worked like a young cascade guy with Bruce Lee Fury fist. “Bruce Lee typed my shoulder [and said] “Great”, after several catches of a painful scene, he told the public.

Chan also shared how he gained a lot of respect for people in a bowling alley when he brought Bruce Lee there, adding that he was himself a very good bowler.

After Lee’s death, Chan was invited to redo Fury fistBut it was the “bad script, the bad character,” he felt. “The film just didn’t make a box office.” The filmmakers wanted him to become the new Lee, the poster even saying: “The new Bruce Lee [in big letter] Jackie Chan [in very small print,” the star said. “The directed wanted me [to do] Just like Bruce Lee. I’m not Bruce Lee.

One of Chan’s advice for the longevity of the industry: always open and seek to change and evolve. For example, he said that he had learned to sing because each time he presented himself for television interviews, the hosts asked him to do a combat sequence with them. “The song is easier,” said Chan laughing.

Later in his career, “I wanted to be an Asian Niro Robert,” said the star, explaining that television and other hosts would always present it while making a martial arts gesture. “No one presents Robert de Niro” with a gesture of martial arts, said Chan, winning laughter.

He therefore wanted to be appreciated as “an actor who can fight”, not just as a star of the action known for his stunts. “It is only now that they say:” Jackie is a good actor “,” proposed Chan. “And that’s why you have awarded me this price.”

Will Smith and the Karate The remake gave Chan this chance to leave the fights the next generation. “I had become a master,” said Chan about her role.

Chan has always facilitated action scenes, but he always had respect for the risk. “I’m not a superman. I am afraid every time I have a blow, ”he shared.

Chan Sunday also discussed how the studios today focused on business and money more than the art of cinema, saying that he hoped that his career has seen him do something more than money. “Right now, many major studios are not filmmakers, they are business guys,” he said. “Today, it is very difficult to make a good film.”

Although he was known for his discipline, Chan shared that he was “lazy and mean” and “I liked fighting when I was young”.

Fighting was also a theme the day before. “I am 71 years old. I can still fight,” said the star in his speech to accept Saturday Awards to the pleasure of the crowd. “In addition, this year, I have been in the film industry for 64 years.”

As part of a tribute to her career, Chan also came to Locarno to present her films Project A (1983) and Police story (1985), on which he worked as a star and director.

“As a Hong Kong cinema fan – I wrote three books on Hong Kong – Jackie Chan is a dream come true,” Locarno Giona A. Nazzaro’s artistic director said recently THR.

When they revealed Chan for the first time as a leopard winner of this year’s career, the locally organized organizers praised him as “Asian megastar, a beloved master and Hollywood for action films that have filled the gap between East and West”.

Addition of Nazzaro: “Director, producer, actor, screenwriter, choreographer, singer, athlete and stuntman from Daredevil, Jackie Chan is both a key figure in contemporary Asian cinema and whose influence has rewritten the rules of Cinema Holil A touch of zenChan continually reinvented martial arts cinema and far beyond. »»
