Jack Lowden and Martin Freeman play in the new trailer for the “fifth stage”

The National Theater Live of the United Kingdom has published a new trailer for “The Fifth Step”, with the winner of the Prix Olivier Jack Lowden (“Slow Horses”, “Dunkirk”) and Emmy and the winner of Bafta Martin Freeman (“The Hobbit”, “The Responder”) in the drama acclaimed by the criticism of David Ireland.

The trailer offers a wider audience their first overview of the two intense annoyances. Production should reach cinemas around the world from November 27, presented by Neal Street Productions, Playful Productions and National Theater of Scotland in association with Nica Burns.

Ireland’s play, the writer behind “Ulster American”, follows the Journey of Alcoholy Anonymous in twelve stages, and focuses on two men: James (Freeman), a long -standing member of the program that agrees to mentor the newcomer Luka (Lowden). Above the cups of black coffee, the pair forges a fragile link through shared experiences. But as Luka approaches the fifth critical stage of the program, which requires total honesty, the two men must face dangerous secrets of their past – revelations that could be reinforced or refer them to dependence.

The production was filmed live during its closed West End shopping race with closed counters at the intimate and round @soHoplace theater. Made by Finn Den Hertog, the piece was initially presented in Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow in 2024 through the National Theater of Scotland before its successful transfer to London.

Lowden is at the origin of Luka’s role at the Edinburgh International Festival 2024 under the banner of the National Theater of Scotland.

The project marks another high level addition to the list of theatrical programs of National Theater Live, including “Interlia”, with Rosamund Pike.
