It’s cold outside, so make sure you have one of these great weather apps

Carrot Weather gives you the weather with a bit of personality. Here’s the thing: you can choose the type of personality you want the app to have, from Professional, which turns off jokes, to Overkill – expect some serious profanity. You can even select which politics the app personifies, from apolitical to anarchist.

This app gives you access to standard weather information such as daily temperatures, weather conditions and future forecasts. It’s also easy to find other environmental information, like the current moon phase and UV index, on the app’s home page, compared to some other weather apps.

The app is unique in that you can “link” with it by loading, renting, or debugging it from the Carrot tab. Charging is simply tapping a power source on the screen, praise asks you to talk to the app through your phone’s microphone, and debugging asks you to shake your phone. Once you are sufficiently logged into the app, you can start messaging with an in-app chatbot. It’s certainly unique among the other weather apps on this list.

While this app can be fun and give you a good idea of the weather, it doesn’t offer radar with the free version of the app.

On the surface, Carrot Weather’s privacy policy seems simple. It indicates that the application only collects information “absolutely necessary” for the operation of the service. Later, it says your information might be shared with other services, like AccuWeather.

The policy also states that the chatbot mentioned above uses OpenAI’s ChatGPT service. The policy states that it sends these messages to an intermediary server in an attempt to prevent the transmission of personally identifiable information to third parties. But the content of the messages is transmitted to OpenAI’s servers, which “may collect, process and store information about you that they glean from messages you send.”

You can download the free version of Carrot Weather from the App Store and Google Play Store. You can also subscribe to the premium version of the app for $5 per month (or $20 per year), the premium ultra version for $10 per month (or $40 per year), or the premium family version for $15 per month (or $60 per year).
