Gia Coppola, Mark Ruffalo, Ari Aster Drive Rome Cinema in Piazza

The series of summer projections of Rome’s Il Cinema in Piazza has completed its six -week annual event with more than 120,000 spectators, including Al Pacino, who presented himself to catch “Foxcatcher” by Bennett Miller, presented by the director and Star Mark Ruffalo.
The unique program featuring 94 free projections in three outdoor places, plus the art-artery place of interior cinema, is managed by the non-profit piccolo America in Rome, a fiery group of young cinema lovers who fought to turn off the imminent threat that a substantial part of Rome cinema could be converted into shopping centers and supermarkets. Martin Scorsese is one of their supporters.
Now, in its 11th edition, the cinema in piazza has intensified this year the number of special events, bringing a multitude of national and international talents to her scenes, including Gia Coppola who came to present “Palo Alto” and “The Last Showgirl”; The director of “Anora”, Ari Aster, who presented “JFK” by Oliver Stone, as part of the Carte Blanche program of the series which gives artists the freedom to select and present any film they wish.
Brady Corbet hiked to Rome to introduce projections of the psychological “anxiety” of the Austrian director Gerald Kargl as well as his “brutalist” which was presented in a conversation with an eminent Polish-American architect Daniel Libeskind.
Among this year’s main innovations, the Residenza, a parallel training and development project dedicated to young directors under the age of 35 from around the world, has created in collaboration with the Numero 10 production shingles of Paolo Sorrentino. This intensive program of workshops and mentorships with industry professionals, guided by the artistic vision of Valeria Golino, which was a mentor of the first edition, took place from June 9 to July 6. She offered four directors the opportunity to immerse herself in the IL in Piazza cinema and meet international customers at first glance.
