“It can be very hurtful”

Roger Federer shared his reflections on the advantages and disadvantages of the use of social media. Swiss tennis legend explained how social media can have a negative impact on players and other individuals.
Federer is worldwide considered one of the biggest tennis players of all time. During his decorated career, the 44 -year -old man won 103 titles in a single ATP Tour, including 20 major men’s single men. He shared famous field rivalries with Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, known as “Big Three”. Together, they dominated male tennis for more than a decade.
During its appearance on NotyourcountryClub, NYCC, on September 14, 2025, the tennis icon shared its reflections on how social media can negatively affect athletes. In addition, it also shared the advantages and disadvantages of the use of social media platforms.
“I find it hard to be honest. I am very good at absorbing, say, comments, you know, when I read, 10 comments, for example, you have a big lawyer, and a guy says that you have a bad back. I do not question my back after that. It can be very hurtful, I think, a lot of players for many people on the social.” (4:48)
He continued:
“So, then sometimes I start to publish a little less because I want to spend my day thinking about other things in social. But it was an incredible tool because I grew up in time to have a website, right? So, it’s a hatred of love, but I always think for the most part.”
Roger Federer has won several prizes, including five Laureus World Sportsman of the Year Awards.
