Some quick reflections on the apparent fall between Elon Musk and Donald Trump.
I have no more speculation about what these two guys think or feel. But the White House made a big blow on Musk by the chief of the NASA of Canning Musk the day after his departure ceremony of Délingy. This action has both taken something precious far from Musk and treated it with a very public disrespect. So, while Musk clearly tries to undo the ocean of the brand damage he caused and his businesses, I do not think that the White House plays and tries to help with this project. I think they really try to show him who the boss is, a classic example of the Trumpian domination policy.
But here is the thing. These two guys have very large weapons to use against the other. Musk can invest money against the GOP budget bill or GOP holders. Meanwhile, Trump can start canceling all these contracts that Musk has distributed to himself and his friends while he was heading Doge. None of these things happened. Until this is the case, none of this really seems seriously. Musc can whine. And he will make the headlines. But I don’t think they really care about their groans.
An additional note outside this alleged quarrel. Musk does not change side here. He complains that the sections of social programs in the GOP budget are not deep enough. He claims that these are growing deficits. But he said nothing about the high income tax reductions in the centerpiece which are the engines of these deficits. So, even if it is probably obvious for most of you by reading this, it is important to note that Musk does not change in any way. He approves a kind of position of Caucus of freedom. Musk could create problems for Trump and the bill on this front. But there are limits to the quantity of races he has there. There is certainly a republican appetite for more cuts. But I suspect that most Republicans, even those who want more wild spending cuts, know how difficult it was to put it together and do not want to upset this apple cart. The greater the fight, the better for Democrats. If it happens … but I am skeptical.
