The return of Ipswich in the championship was not fluid.
They saved a draw during the other favorites in the promotion of Birmingham City after a late penalty during the opening evening of the season, but suffered a shock from the Carabao Cup at the part of the League two Bromley in a penalty shootout.
They also lost two big names from the team – Nathan Broadhead, whose moving to Wrexham broke the transfer record for the Welsh club, and Omari Hutchinson, who has long been moved in the forest of the Premier League Nottingham Forest only yesterday.
Ipswich failed to win one of their best flight games against today’s opponents, Southampton last season, and lost the match at Portman Road last season after a winner of the 87th minute of Paul Onuachu.
The East Anglian side will want to make a good performance today to bounce back from the shocking loss of the middle of the week. Even if it is early, they do not want to find themselves playing catch -up in a second level season filled with contenders.
This could be a reconstruction in more ways than one this season …
