Interview with Murderbot with Lead star Alexander Skarsgård and creators Chris Weitz and Paul Weitz (exclusive)

Based on the series of books winner of Martha Wells Hugo and Nebula, Murder is a comic science fiction thriller about a self-hacking security construction which is horrified by human emotion but attracted by its vulnerable customers.

Murder (Alexander Skarsgård) must hide his free will and finish a dangerous mission when everything he wants is to be left alone to look at futuristic serials and understand his place in the universe.

Last month, we were able to speak with Skarsgård and the creators / writers / directors / producers Chris Weitz and Paul Weitz on the work on the series. We started by asking the example of the show to find humanity in a character called “Murderbot”.

“We wanted a contrast and a juxtaposition between the name of the character and the way we designed the appearance of the character. We wanted a difficult name like Murderbot, which seems that he could certainly fight you, but it is a fun contrast when you really meet it,” he explained. “It is not a combat machine filled with testosterone. It is a very clumsy Android socially that wants to be left alone to look at Sanctuary Moon.”

The Weitz brothers, who collaborated on several projects, including the seminal About a boyare not unrelated to science fiction, Chris having written Rogue One: A Star Wars story. Has this experience helped prepare it to Murder?

“Yeah, I think that the learning of Gareth Edwards on the construction of the world of science fiction which so well incorporated the action live and the CGI was a real roadmap for us, visually,” The filmmaker confirmed. “Also, knowing that there is an intensely motivated fandom that awaits any clue on what you are going, and which very closely appreciate their head cannon and that you must try to make them understand that you are also a fan.”

He continued, “”[It’s about] Understand that the way of popularizing something like this is to take what people are really or really love and bring it back to the world rather than saying: “We will get rid of all these stupid elements and do it more like things that have succeeded.” “”

The father of Skarsgård, Stellan, is currently flying the show in a galaxy far, very far with Andor. While Alexander has not yet joined a Star Wars Project, it is no stranger to gender rates thanks to tastes Real blood,, Godzilla against KongAnd Infinity pool.

What it was Murder Did that make it such a good adjustment for its first science fiction in its own right? “I am a child from the 80s. I grew up watching Star Wars. It’s a bit of a dream of being part of a science fiction project. I wanted to wait for the good one”, “ The actor revealed. “I have read a few things over the years that were not quite for me, but it seemed perfect.”

“Tonally, it was something for which I was drawn. It was so idiosyncratic and different and unexpected. I had no interest in playing a more generic or derived character. It looked like something that I had not seen or read before,” Skarsgård concluded.

MurderThe overall distribution also includes Noma Dumezweni (Presumed innocent), David Dastmalchian (Oppenheimer), Sabrina Wu (Joy), Akshay Khanna (Critical incident), Tattiawna Jones (The history of the servant) and Tamara Podemski (Exterior beach).

The series will be presented on Apple TV + on May 16. You can look at our full Murder Interviews with Alexander Skarsgård and Chris Weitz and Paul Weitz – where we get lots of interesting ideas on the show – in the players below.
