Inter Miami make decision to sign Robert Lewandowski to play alongside Lionel Messi

Robert Lewandowski will not line up alongside Lionel Messi at Inter Miami next season, although the Polish veteran could still finish his career in Major League Soccer.
Lewandowski is 37 years old and his contract at Barcelona expires at the end of the season. As things stand, there is no indication that the Catalans will look to extend his contract, making him an attractive free agent transfer target for clubs in the United States and Saudi Arabia.
Miami have been mentioned as a possible suitor but, according to a report in Sport this morning, they have no plans to make a move for the former Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich striker.
Miami is confident it already has a player with a similar profile to Lewandowski in another former Barca star, Luis Suarez, even though the Uruguayan veteran was a peripheral figure in the closing stages of Miami’s first MLS Cup victory.
Suarez is reportedly close to signing a new contract with Miami, but on reduced terms to reflect his waning influence on the team.
Chicago considering Lewandowski deal
However, Lewandowski could still move to MLS, with the Chicago Fire also interested.
Sport reports that the Fire have already held talks with the player’s representatives with a view to bringing him in in July after the league’s break for the World Cup.
Lewandowski is still arguably part of Barca’s best XI, although he is competing for the number nine role with Ferran Torres, who is having an exceptional season.
He joined Barca from Bayern in the summer of 2022 and has scored 109 goals in 164 matches.
Lewandowski has suffered from injuries this season, but has still contributed eight goals and one assist in 17 appearances for the La Liga leaders.
Miami have already strengthened their squad for next season with the acquisition of former Manchester United and Spurs full-back Sergio Reguilon.
He will directly replace Jordi Alba, who, alongside his compatriot Sergio Busquets, announced his retirement.
