Indian team Jammu and Kashmir opener Parvez Rasool announces retirement

Even though Parvez Rasool was a consistent player in the domestic circuit, he could not get a regular place in the Indian team.

Remember Parvez Rasool, the first cricketer from J&K to represent the Indian team? Well, the veteran national all-rounder has announced his retirement from all formats of the game, after being neglected from the J&K team for the last two years. According to the Times of India, after leaving the game, he focused on coaching and even completed a CoE Level 2 certification course.

Parvez Rasool says goodbye to cricket

Parvez Rasool played for India in 2014 and 2017, but didn’t get many chances despite performing consistently in the domestic circuit. In 95 matches, he took 352 wickets, while with the bat he scored 5,648 runs at an average of 38.95. “Yes, I retired from cricket. Obviously, playing for India was the proudest moment of my life.

“Coming from J&K, which was not well known for cricket, I won the Lala Amarnath Trophy for the best all-rounder in the Ranji Trophy twice (in 2013-14 and 2017-18), and became the first from my region to play for India and in the IPL. I feel good to have contributed to the game,” Rasool told TOI.

Coaching is now on the agenda

Rasool expressed a lot of satisfaction with the way the game has progressed in the state, and also reached the quarters twice under his captaincy. They are no longer minnows, with last year being a breakout year for them, where they reached the semi-finals.

But what he regrets is that he could not play for India in the Test match format. And this is despite a selection of 7/45 against Australia, for the Chairman of the Board’s XI. “Clearly, this regret is there. I played two white-ball matches for India, but I wanted to play Test cricket, especially after winning seven for 45 for the Chairman’s XI against Australia (at Chennai, February 2013).

“However, it is destiny. You try your best to do well. Thanks to the Almighty, I have a tremendous record for J&K with bat and ball. I have scored 10,470 runs and taken over 623 wickets in all formats in my career. As I said, I am now looking forward to my new role as coach,” » concludes Rasool.
