A blatant omission of the team of the India team is that of Nair. The striker was part of the Test Ind VS Eng soon this year, but was abandoned after delivering a less than normal performance in England. Meanwhile, in the absence of Rishabh Pant, Jadeja was appointed vice-captain while Dhruv Jurel is India’s first choice for the series.

Jasprit Bumrah has been appointed to the team and will be at the head of the rhythm battery which includes usual suspects Siraj and Krishna. Sundar, Axar and Kuldeep include the spin unit, with a patest that goes up the side of the test for the first time since February 2024.

Five of the 14 players appointed to the team are currently part of the Asian Cup campaign in India. The team will meet in Ahmedabad on September 29, one day after the Asian Cup final.
