India falls 2 posts despite medals won on day 8

The world athletics championships para 2025 in New Delhi were a huge strength show, and day 8 was historic for India. The Indian team offered an exceptional performance that pushed the nation to its best medal count at the championships.

Before day 8, the Indian team had already won 15 medals (6 gold, 5 silver, 4 bronze) thanks to brilliant performance earlier in the week, including twin gold medals from Nishad Kumar and Simran Sharma on day 7.

However, because other countries such as Brazil and China have been added to their count of gold medals, the rank of India in the general picture has slipped two positions by the end of day 8.

But Indian para-athletes retaliated with an incredible spirit on day 8, winning three more crucial medals at home. First of all, Ekta Bhyan showed its power by winning a silver medal in the F51 event of the female club. Army veteran Soman Rana then added another money in the male weight launch F57, a proud moment for him and the country.

The last medal of the day came from Praveen Kumar, who struggled against a recent injury to claim a hard bronze in the Male T64 high jump. These three vital medals were sufficient to increase the final count of India to 18 medals (6 gold, 7 silver, 5 bronze). This total officially beat the best of 17 medals from the Kobe 2024 championships, making this performance on the ground at home a really historic success.

Update medal of the World Para-Athletics Championships 2025 after day 8

The final figures show that even if India has not won a gold medal on day 8, the three new medals were sufficient to establish a huge national record. China and Brazil still hold the best places due to their enormous count of gold medals. However, the constant performance of India throughout the championships has firmly placed them among the strongest ranks.

The updated medal count for the 10 best ranks after day 8 is as follows:

Row Country Gold Money Bronze
1 Brazil 12 18 7
2 China 9 18 14
3 Poland 8 2 5
4 Iran 7 2 5
5 Colombia 6 9 3
6 India 6 7 5
7 Great Britain 6 4 13
8 The Netherlands 6 2 1
9 Italy 6 1 2
9 Swiss 6 1 2
9 Thailand 6 1 2

Day 8 marked the end of the medal frenzy of India, but she left the team on a huge high note with a record of 18 medals. While most of the best athletes in India have completed their events, the emphasis is now put to the last events and finals.
