“ In summer I became pretty ” Matriarches unpack the potential fallout, final of the series

This article contains spoilers from the final of the series of “The Summer I Third Jolie”.

Belly and Conrad may have been intended for each other since birth due to the eternal friendship of their mother. Although Laurel (Jackie Chung) and Susannah (Rachel Blanchard) gathered both by chance, their love finally took her own life.

Chung and Blanchard played shy at Thewrap while chatting if they were the Conrad team or the post-Final Jeremiah team, with Chung saying that his character Laurel would have been satisfied with one or the other choice for his daughter Belly (Lola Tung).

Blanchard, on the other hand, told Thewrap that the belly considering if she and no, Conrad’s love, was real after the death of Susannah which was particularly touching to her in the last episode. “It sort of broke my heart,” she said.

The matriarch also discussed the next film “The Summer I Twary Pretty” and theorized a potential flashback of Paris for their characters. Although Susannah died of cancer in the final of season 2, Blanchard hopes that her character could still make a cameo in the film.

Below, the actresses decompose the final of the series and speculate on the possibility of a series of spin-off which followed the original stories of their characters.

We do not know if Laurel has already discovered that Jeremiah was deducing her stomach. Do you think Belly has already said to Laurel, and what would be her reaction?

Jackie Chung: I don’t think Laurel knows it. I don’t think she heard. I think if she knew, she would have been a little disappointed but would have understood the circumstances. She knows that relationships are disorderly, and especially when you are this age, you sometimes do not communicate so clearly. I think she would have understood that the circumstances were troubled, but that in this stage, things worked, and everyone is where they must be.

What do you think of Laurel’s reaction to discover the belly and Conrad gathered? Do you think that Laurel always wanted the belly with Conrad, or would she have preferred it to find a non-poison?

Chung: I really think, really Laurel, supports the belly in her dream and on her trip to find the right partner. I think that if it was a non-poison, it would also have gone well. As she looks at their relationship developing, if Conrad is a good stomach match and supports her dreams and is good for her, then Laurel would support him. And if he doesn’t do it, I think she wouldn’t.

In this last episode, Belly fears that she and Conrad did not meet if it was not for Susannah. What was your reaction to see this scene take place?

Rachel Blanchard: I thought this scene was really touching, and it broke my heart because you want to know that you are with the person because it is who you chose. I loved that she asked for this, faced this and resolved it in a way.

We saw Laurel revive things with John, but it didn’t work. Why do you imagine that they broke things and what are you hoping for their future?

I think that the Pepcid scene really saw Laurel and John fall into these ancient roles in which they had already been, where he may surface something and do not know where anything is, and she must find things and keep them online.

She probably realized: “Oh, it is not true”, because she gives him another now that she is older and more mature and more installed in herself. I hope Laurel will continue her trip to find the right person. It will probably take time. Relations are more complicated when you are older and have children and careers and already established things.

Was there a part of you who would have liked to see them get back together and have this fairy tale ending?

Chung: It’s nice to see a relationship where partners understand each other so well. I have the impression that John has always had Laurel and has always been favorable. I have the impression that he may not have everything she was looking for, but these parts of him were so beautiful, so I’m glad that people could see him.

Blanchard: And they copy so well together.

Chung: They coach great. They love their children; are attached to them.

There were also strange vibrations with Adam as usual. Is there a chance that Laurel would never rekindle things with Adam?

He sometimes makes strange and inappropriate comments, but Laurel knows him so long that she is used to and laughs in a way. I don’t know. I would never say. I think it would be quite the trip for them to rekindle something so long ago.

We know that Laurel and Adam were together before Susannah and Adam were together. What conversations do you both have on what happened there?

Blanchard: I don’t know, but I’m curious to discover it.

Chung: I know, too. I can’t really imagine how they resolved it.

Blanchard: I have the impression that it should not be so serious, or Susannah was simply not interested. Because I think that if she was really interested and you were really serious, it’s a no.

Chung: I think I met him first, then you met him through me. I don’t think we both knew him.

Blanchard: But I don’t think I’m interested in him when I met him for the first time. We clearly don’t know.

I am very happy to hear about the film. Jenny said she had a draft, but what do you know?

Chung: We just know it happens, and that’s all we know.

And Rachel, are you going to appear?

Blanchard: I hope yes, but I don’t know anything about this. I would be very happy.

Jackie, what answers do you want where your character is going? Rachel, do you have something you would also like to know about all the characters?

Blanchard: I thought the final really bound everything, but also in a way all these new beginnings. I want to know where all these relationships are going. Steven and Taylor, I’m curious. It’s going to be fun to watch.

Chung: I want to know if Laurel has more relationships or if she writes another book.

The film seems to be centered on wedding day, which will be a very emotional moment for everyone. What can you imagine about how your character could be involved in this wedding day?

Chung: I didn’t know. Well, I imagine, I hope Laurel would be there. I don’t know. Maybe there will be drama? So maybe your ghost appears.

Blanchard: My ghost will appear. I will float in the aisle.

The chatter of a derivative series has always revolved around Laurel and Susannah. Would you all be all here for this idea?

Blanchard: It would be really fun to see that.

Chung: We have so many questions we want to answer, and I can understand why people are curious, because we are too.

We could not see one of you on the screen in Paris. Would you like to turn there in the future?

Chung: Yes, a resounding yes. It’s so beautiful here.

Blanchard: I try to present this in the film, we have a flashback of us in Paris having a wonderful, fun and beautiful and epic adventure. I’m sure our characters went together.

Chung: This is us together in our youth.

Blanchard: Or maybe not even in our youth. I try to take us to Paris, Jackie!

Chung: You are right. I resume this, not in youth.

Blanchard: I might see that we went a weekend far from children. Then we went to really special places. Belly goes to these places with Conrad. Maybe Adam came, and that’s where Conrad was designed.

The three seasons of “The Summer I Turning Pretty” are available to broadcast on Prime Video.
