Tesla Cybertruck is a bust

The media is dead. The Tesla Cybertruck, once presented as the future of electric vehicles, now looks like a commercial bust.
In the second quarter of 2025, Tesla sold only 4,306 cybertrucks, down 50.8% compared to the 8,755 units it delivered during the same period last year, according to new data from Kelley Blue Book. This dive is a signal that the most in force truck in America can already be short of gas.
When the Cybertruck was revealed for the first time in November 2019, Elon Musk described it as “best truck than a F-150, faster than a Porsche 911”. Its exoskeleton in stainless science fiction steel and its futuristic angles made it an instant viral sensation and a lightning rod for the debate. But almost six years later, the surrealist design of the truck, the clumsy size, the high price and the late delivery have transformed it into a niche, not a consumer success.
The Cybertruck was officially launched in November 2023, late years, with basic models from $ 72,235 and high-level variants pushing far beyond $ 100,000. The first opinions raised the red flags on software problems, a bad fit and a finish, and a disappointing beach for a vehicle of its size.
Now, the figures confirm what criticisms and former fans have warned: Cybertruck does not resonate with buyers.

It’s not just Tesla who feels the pain. The Ford F-150 Lightning, another flagship electric pick-up, also had an approximate quarter, with sales of 26.1% to 5,842 units, compared to 7,902 in the second quarter 2024. The decline suggests that enthusiasm for large expensive electric trucks can cool quickly.
On the other hand, Silverado EV de Chevrolet, which looks at a more conventional design and pricing strategy, is gaining ground. GM sold 3,056 EV Silverado during the quarter, up 39.2% from one year to the next. It is always behind Tesla and Ford in raw number, but growth shows that there is appetite. Just maybe not for experimental luxury trucks.
For Tesla, Cybertruck’s collapse arrives at a difficult time. Global sales of the company US EV fell 12.6% in the second quarter, part of a larger slowdown in industry. But while model 3 has gained ground and the model remained there the best -selling EV, the cybertruck is already like the weakest link in Tesla.
Cybertruck was supposed to be a cultural event, a product that has violated all the rules and redefined what a truck could be. Instead, he quickly became a case study to overpromise and underlie.
