If you can pass the terrible logo, Audacity 4 looks rather great

Recommenters rarely get a lot of love. This reaction can be particularly strong if you give a lifting to a software for several decades appreciated by the Nerds around the world. It is therefore not surprising that when Audacity revealed that his new Internet logo has been a little elaborated. And look, there are not two ways, the logo is quite bad. The police are quite pleasant, but the confusing vision of their traditional helmet icon is rough.

Reactions around The penis The information room included “it looks like someone walked on the Apple Music icon” and “trying to decide if their new logo looks like a sperm, and I am especially finding yes”. But if you can exceed the brand, Audacity 4 actually seems to be a much necessary upgrade.

Martin Keary, vice-president of product at Muse, published a video of almost an hour on YouTube detailing the challenges faced by audacity, the logic behind design modifications and updates on the development of version 4 (provided for the release in early 2026). One of the biggest improvements is to minimize what Keary calls “Audacity says” no “. These are things that Audacity will simply not let you do, often without explanation other than a simple pop-up (if you are lucky). He lists a number of examples:

If you want to slide a clip in front of another clip, it strikes it like a brick wall. No. If you copy a clip and try to stick it where there is not enough virgin track, no. You don’t have enough room. If you wanted to select multiple clips… no.

Cleaning involved changing the behavior of the user interface, such as the automatic cutting of a clip if you stick something on it and you get rid of a bunch of “modes” that limited the way you could interact with the audio. The team also added meters for individual tracks, facilitating cutting and stretching time (simply click and slide the edge of the clip), and added a split tool that facilitates audio cleaning.

Some users might be upset that the synchronization locking function is disappearing, but as a long -standing daring user, I can confirm that it is a confusing mess. Working with and keeping several audio tracks in synchronization is a difficult challenge to be met, but the magnitude approached in version 4 has much more meaning (for me at least). Add to that, a more customizable modern interface that is much easier to read and Audacity 4 seems in fact to be announced as a major step for the faithful audio editor. Let’s just hope that they will revisit the brand before the right outing in 2026.
