Ibrox chiefs now planning talks with ‘relentless’ target of Rangers manager

Ibrox bosses have scheduled interviews with one of their top managerial candidates to fill Rangers’ vacancy.
Rangers manager candidates named
Several names have been mentioned in recent days, but the Gers have not yet made an official appointment to replace Russell Martin. The former Southampton boss had a dismal run, winning just once in seven attempts in the Scottish Premiership, and looked destined to lose his job from the start.
Names mentioned so far for the position include Sean Dyche, Danny Rohl, Derek McInnes and others. Dyche represents an experienced Premier League option among those three, but it remains to be seen whether the 49ers will want to turn to English football again or whether Dyche will be tempted by the position.
Rohl, meanwhile, represents an exciting but risky option. He was excellent at Sheffield Wednesday as their off-field struggles threatened the quality on it. Now a free agent, he could replace Martin.
That said, McInnes arguably offers the best balance of these three names. The Hearts manager has enjoyed a good start to the current campaign, with his side leading and unbeaten in the Scottish Premiership.
Given Hearts’ impressive run, it’s no surprise the manager is on Rangers’ list. The big question, however, remains whether he is ready to interrupt his project just five months after his arrival.
This is a decisive meeting for the Gers’ season and one that the 49ers must succeed. It appears that US owners are also getting closer to a final decision after the latest update.
Rangers schedule Gerrard talks
According to Sky Sports, the 49ers have now scheduled interviews with Steven Gerrard, which will take place in the coming days. The Liverpool legend recently revealed he has “unfinished business” when it comes to management and could make a return to Ibrox with that in mind.
If the 49ers are looking to transform themselves into title contenders, then hiring Rangers’ latest manager to win the Scottish Premiership at Ibrox certainly wouldn’t be a bad idea.
It wasn’t long ago that Gerrard was receiving incredibly high praise from those around Ibrox and now the new set-up could reap the rewards of his return if talks go ahead as planned this week.
Former Rangers chairman Dave King told reporters after the 45-year-old signed a new contract in 2019: “From the moment I met Steven I could tell he was the right man to help us take this club forward on the pitch. He has an elite mentality and that’s exactly what I was looking for.
“He is relentless in his drive to bring success to our club and we are delighted that he has signed this new contract, which shows his commitment to Rangers.”
A manager with unfinished business in the technical department and an old club in desperate need of a turnaround. Rangers need Gerrard as much as he needs them.
