I used Gardyn to cultivate my own products in my apartment for 3 months

I dream of having a huge garden, but I also refuse to live outside a city (at least for the moment). So this backyard garden is a bit of a pipe dream. However, I found an excellent alternative that allows me to harvest fruits, vegetables, herbs and flowers while living in an apartment.

Gardyn is an interior hydroponic garden which uses a water tank and a brilliant crop light to promote the growth of plants under interior conditions which would generally not be conducive to the life of the garden. I have been using the Gardyn studio in my apartment for about three months, and I love it.

What attracted me to Gardyn, let’s say, aerogarden or click and cultivate is the size and the number of plant slots. My Gardyn studio contains up to 16 plants and measures 1 foot 5 inches with 1 foot dx 4 feet 6 inches H. It adapts well in a corner of my apartment and occupies about the same amount of space as my snake plant.

Gardyn also has a domestic version, which has a larger imprint and contains up to 30 plants. It would be an excellent option for families or households trying to be self -sufficient and that count less on grocery products.

I like the options of Gardyn more than the counter size typical of other interior gardens because they have the impression of being able to really harvest real amounts of food, rather than simply cut herbs from time to time.

How Gardyn works

The configuration is quite easy and simple, if a little takes time. I assembled the posts and put each ypod in place. There is a practical guide for each start -up kit that shows which ycubes each plant should enter.

After placing all my plants on the Gardyn, I filled the water tank and food plant, and it has been relatively self -sufficient since then. I used the Gardyn AI assistant, Kelby, who created schedules for me. So my Gardyn regulates its own light and water schedules. I just have to fill the tank, occasionally clean the tank, keep the roots and cut / harvest the plants.

I saw growth in a few days

The Gardyn application says to expect germs within seven to 21 days, depending on the plant. I saw germs for most of my plants within three days, with a few trains passing after the seven -day brand.

I received the budding florist starter kit which includes seven greens, three herbs and six flowers. Each plant grew up at a different pace, but after two months, all my Gardyn broke out.

At three months, I had to collect and frequently reduce my plants to avoid them to become uncontrollable. Everything in the starter kit is not something I would eat, so I became a little lazy with my harvest. But if I only cultivated flowers, fruits and vegetables that I like, abundance would be incredible.

The Gardyn application hosts a wide selection of plants that you can buy to exchange in your Gardyn. And if you pay for membership, you get five free store credits each month to use to new factories.

Harvest plants

My leafy greens became faster than the rest of the plants, so for my first harvest, I simply caught butter lettuce to go to hamburgers that I grilled. As the rest of my plants matured, I experienced different salads and added chopped onions and purple basil to the dishes for an additional flavor. (They were particularly good on a soup of potato in the oven and lasagna, respectively.)

I must admit that I am historically not a big salad eater. I hate the crunchy white parts of the Roman, so most of the restaurants of restaurants or grocery stores are simply not my cup of tea. However, the butter head and the green lettuce of the Salanova of my starter kit are the perfect green vegetables for my tastes. I do a small honey lemon vinaigrette and homemade sourdough croutons to create a refreshing side salad with my dinners throughout the week.

Gardyn products have tastes SO Fresh, and it feels good to know exactly where my food comes from – and that it is without pesticides.

The flowers were a little more difficult to harvest, simply because their stems are so short. But I made mini bouquets, and I also like the brightness and the color they add to the corner of the room where my Gardyn is seated. Gardyn also sells a vase that welcomes the ypods It would be a great option to let the flowers shine alone.

As I said, sometimes I become lazy with the pruning of my plants, but after everything is adult, you will certainly need to handle Gardyn to avoid overcrowding. If I neglect my plants for a week, they fight for space.

Kelby is my new best friend

Gardyn users have the opportunity to pay Kelby, who is the assistant of the Gardyn AI. A one -year subscription costs $ 22 per month (or $ 264 per year) and a two -year subscription costs $ 19 per month ($ 228 per year).

It is very useful to be so without integrity and to let things happen automatically. But you could certainly manage without Kelby if you do not want to distribute this kind of money – especially if you already have some experience by taking care of the plants.

Kelby established my watering and light calendar for me, and I was able to make adjustments if necessary – I shortened my light calendar and adjusted the brightness during certain hours, because having a bright light light in my living room at 23 hours was simply not in the cards for my trip.

Reminders to clean my tank or add more water have been very useful. I don’t need to pay too much attention to the device itself because I get these alerts directly on my phone.

The holiday mode was nice when I made a week -long lake trip with my family. I knew that my plants would not die during my absence, but they would not become uncontrollable.

Gardyn is worth it?

As a person who lives in a city and does not intend to move somewhere with a courtyard anytime soon, the Gardyn is worth it. I cannot count the number of times I have thrown frustrated from the products of the grocery store that I sworn I would eat before it turns wrong. Being able to simply cut what I need my Gardyn allows me to eat fresh products when I want and reduce food waste.

I also have such a feeling of achieving harvesting of food and flowers that I grew up by myself – made even more satisfactory by the little work that it is really required on my part.

If you just want to grow a few herbs and perhaps cherry tomatoes, you would probably be better with a smaller (and cheaper) table hydropon producer. Yes, Gardyn is expensive, but if you really want to engage in a garden but you do not have the outdoor space, it is a dignified investment.
