Some time after my social flows began to fill up with advertisements for mini-PCs, I realized that there was a silent revolution in progress in office PCs. Welcome to the mini-PC era, where you can do all your computer from a smaller PC than a box of pop-tarts and much cheaper than a full-fledged office PC in many cases.
Naturally, I wanted one, so I bit the ball and bought a mini-PC GMKTEK G5, the smallest mini-PC of 2024. Now, I could not be happier. The first advantage I noticed was the price. While a new comparable performance laptop would cost me more than $ 600, the Mini -PC cost me only $ 150 – it is also with preinstalled Windows 11 delivery and house.
I was skeptical at first on how I would use it for work instead of my laptop, but it went well. Admittedly, I cannot use my mini-PC traveling without electricity and a screen as I can with my laptop, but again, I don’t need it. All my calculation is done either in the office or at home and my mini-PC has all the peripherals it needs on each location.
Its small size alone has made my trip to and from the work so much easier. While my laptop took the whole back section of my backpack, my mini-PC slides next to my lunch box, not taking more than a few centimeters in both directions. Only 7 ounces, it is also much lighter. I managed to drop a whole weight of 2 pounds of my shoulders during my daily journey.

The fact that the performance was excellent was the icing on the cake. The mini frequently reaches clock speeds of 3.4 GHz; He performs all my applications gently and in silence; And it seems much more powerful than my work laptop. The power print is also very small, only 12 W and it does not heat up like my laptop either. Sometimes I can’t wait to install more RAM, which I should be able to do much easier than in a laptop.
As for the configuration, I only need a few minutes to connect my mouse, keyboard and HDMI cables, almost at the same time you need to load my laptop. I also really like the fact that I can choose the devices that I want to use with my mini-PC. This means that I can use my favorite keyboard at work, the Razer Deathstalker V2 Pro, which is so good for writing.
So, if you only need to use your laptop between work and home and you don’t need a device to develop, plan to go to a mini-PC. You will not regret portability and performance!
