The CTA Red Line shooting leaves the man injured by criticism, disturbs the morning service

A man was shot down during a fight on a CTA Red Line train on Wednesday morning, which prompted a disruption in service before peak hours.

What we know:

The shooting occurred just before 4:30 am on a red line train in southern direction near Roosevelt station, according to the Chicago police.

A 29 -year -old man fought with another person when he released a gun and pulled him in the thigh and buttocks, police said. The victim was taken to Stroger hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

The alleged shooter fled the train south of State Street. Police said no arrest had been made.

Disturbed red line service

For several hours, the red line trains in southern direction were released on the raised tracks between Fullerton and Cermak-Chinatown.

The trains circumvented the metro tunnel in the city center and made stops along the raised tracks in the following stations:

  • Armitage (accessible)
  • Sedgwick (accessible)
  • Chicago (at Franklin; accessible)
  • Mart Merchandise (accessible)
  • Clark / Lake (accessible)
  • State / lake
  • Washington / Wabash (accessible)
  • Adams / Wabash
  • Roosevelt (station raised west of Wabash; accessible)

The CTA said that some red line trains operate with residual delays after the police investigation.
