Hugo Lloris: Tottenham must rely on the victory of the Europa League

Hugo Lloris thinks that his former Tottenham Hotspur club has gained weight of their shoulders after winning the Europa League and praised Angel Postoglou for ending their expectations of 17 for silverware.
The 38 -year -old goalkeeper left the Spurs in February 2024 after making 447 appearances over 11 years and should start the Los Angeles FC at the World Cup of FIFA on Monday against Chelsea.
Lloris, who previously captain of Tottenham, revealed his joy during their 1-0 victory against Manchester United in Bilbao last month, which was not enough to convince the hierarchy of the Spurs to keep Postcoglou after their worst Premier League season, was confirmed with a 17th place.
“I’m really happy,” said Lloris about Tottenham’s triumph. “I am really happy for the club, for the people of the club, for the players.
“We have led many years after this trophy and finally they got it and I think they deserve it.
“I hope it will make their shoulders a little lighter for the future and I think it’s also the time to rely on this success for the Spurs. Even if I am not a Spurs player, I am still news, the team and the results.”
Postcoglou was replaced last week by Thomas Frank as a chief coach and when asked if the decision surprised him, Lloris said: “No, nothing surprises me in football. But at the same time, it is difficult to say something because I am on the other side. I do not know what happened inside the club, so it is very difficult for me to judge.
“If they made this decision, it is because they believe that there is another option that is better for the future of the club.
“What Ange Postcoglou did was simply remarkable. He brought this Europa League trophy, he brought a lot of joy to the Spurs community, a lot of pride and we must all be grateful for this.
“I’m not here to discuss the choice [of Tottenham’s new head coach]. He is a respected coach, he did an incredible job with Brentford. Now, like all coaches, when you arrive in a new club, there is a new environment that you need to kiss. But if the club has decided to name it, it is probably because they decide that it is the best for the future. “”
By reflecting further on the realization of Tottenham, Lloris continued: “They had a really difficult season. They also had a lot of injuries that affected the team and the performances and I think that in the second part of the season, it seems that they decided to go all for the Europa League.
“They did it and you just have to congratulate them because it is another way of going to the Champions League. In the end, I do not know, if you finish the 10, 14th, 15th, 16th and if you are lucky to win a trophy, however, it’s just an incredible achievement.
“I was part of a really competitive team for many years and the target was to reach the first four, but at what price? We could not find a way to win a cup, a league cup or even a Europa League cup, but we managed to get the first four for many years. I don’t know, it’s all about the club’s optics.”
