Huge! Rohit Sharma’s men received Rs 125 crore – how much will Indian women get for winning the World Cup? | Cricket News

The Indian women’s cricket team is one win away from rewriting history as they take on South Africa in the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup final at the DY Patil Stadium on Sunday. It is understood that the BCCI is preparing a record cash reward for Harmanpreet Kaur and her team if they lift the trophy, in line with the board’s commitment to equal pay. “BCCI supports equal pay between men and women and that is why there is a lot of talk that if our girls win the World Cup, the reward will be nothing less than the men’s world triumph. But it is not nice to make an announcement before they win the Cup,” an anonymous BCCI source told PTI. It is learned that the BCCI is considering an amount similar to what the men’s team received after winning the T20 World Cup 2024. On this occasion, the Rohit Sharma-led team, along with the support staff, received ₹125 crore for their match-winning performance against South Africa in the final. Likewise, the women’s team could be in the running for one of the biggest financial rewards in the history of Indian women’s sports. The discussion would arise from the principle of ‘equal pay’ introduced by Jay Shah, then BCCI secretary and now ICC president. This policy ensured that Indian women cricketers would receive match fees identical to their male counterparts. In 2017, when India narrowly lost the World Cup final to England at Lord’s by nine runs, each player was rewarded ₹50 lakh, with head coach Tushar Arothe and support staff also recognized for their efforts. Eight years later, the stakes are much higher, both on and off the field.
