How to wear a football jersey, according to our WAG experts

For Mikaela Worley, whose fiancé, Jeremy Reaves, is a security for Washington’s commanders, that means everything from dressing down the jersey with cowboy boots and mini jeans, to going totally glamorous with knee-high boots and sparkly accessories.

The best part? All of this can be done using items already in your closet, making it pretty simple.

“What I like most about a football jersey is how easy it is to wear it,” she says.

Lindsy Lesmeister, whose fiancé, Connor Colby, is a 49ers guard, also likes to change things up from game to game.

“Whether it’s chunky hoop earrings and stacked bracelets, a slicked back ponytail or a fun bun and a statement handbag, these simple changes make fan clothing more fun and personal,” she says.

For Katie Jones, who spends her Saturdays cheering on her boyfriend Lyrik Rawls as he plays safety for the University of Kansas, one of the pieces of the outfit is MVP.

“You can never go wrong with a swimsuit and cute boots,” she says.

Don’t like the cut? DIY it!

Almost every WAG we spoke with said they love altering jerseys, either working with a professional or creating a look on their own.

“I worked with a local seamstress to completely rework the jerseys by cutting them up and sewing them into halter tops, corsets or even skirts,” says Julia Falconi, whose fiancé, Jordan Stout, is a punter for the Baltimore Ravens. “I love creating more girly and fashionable jerseys, especially for summer games and warm weather.”

Jones adds that a simple DIY can change the look of a jersey, like cutting the neckline to make it off the shoulders or adding easy straps at the waist to make it more fitted.

But if you don’t have time or are nervous about cutting fabric, Lesmeister has an awesome solution.
