How to watch Stephen King’s The Long Walk At Home

There’s something truly special about a thriller that manages to be both tense enough to build tension but also moving to the point of tears. This year alone saw the release of Danny Boyle and Alex Garland’s surprisingly moving “28 Years Later,” and that bar was only raised by the release of Francis Lawrence and JT Mollner’s adaptation of “The Long Walk,” the first novel Stephen King ever wrote. It’s not only one of the best films of the year, a superb King adaptation of all time and a heartbreaking dystopian horror film, but also one of the saddest and heartbreaking films of 2025. We’re talking sadness in the stomach, eyes sore after wiping away tears.

Although “The Long Walk” wasn’t a huge box office success, it broke the record for the highest-rated Stephen King film on Rotten Tomatoes. Now you can judge for yourself whether you’re okay with this placement, because “The Long Walk” comes to home video, allowing you to revisit the devastating deaths these children endure as they embark on a walk until only one boy remains. You can revisit the camaraderie, heartbreak, and surprisingly funny moments of levity that precede another heartbreaking moment of tragedy for these characters, played by a spectacular cast led by Cooper Hoffman and David Jonsson.

Lionsgate has announced that “The Long Walk” will be available to purchase and rent digitally beginning October 21, 2025 (just in time for Halloween!) through your online retailer of choice. For those looking for the best and only lasting way to own a movie, “The Long Walk” will also be available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD on November 25, 2025, just in time to traumatize your family members over the Thanksgiving holiday.

Home version of The Long Walk includes alternate ending and more

“The Long Walk” is a stunning film that speaks to many of the horrors of today and our dystopian reality, but it still functions at its most fundamental level: as an allegory for the Vietnam War lottery, which wasn’t really a lottery and sent thousands of young men to brutal deaths for no good reason. It’s hard not to watch the film and the way these boys think they know what they’re getting into before the cruel reality of their situation really hits them, and their attempts to make friends before jumping in, and not think about the young men being drafted into the army and sent off to war.

You’ll be able to see for yourself when the film is released on home video, at the traditional digital purchase price of $24.99 or $19.99 for a 48-hour rental period. In physical form, “The Long Walk” will be available for $39.99 on Blu-ray (with a digital copy) and $29.96 on DVD. And you’ll want that physical copy, because only the 4K UHD SteelBook version will include the bonus features, which include an alternate ending. Given how different the movie’s ending is from the book’s, it’s worth checking out what could have been.
