The following is the transcription of the interview with the Minnesota senator, Amy Klobuchar, who was broadcast on “Face The Nation with Margaret Brennan” on September 28, 2025.

Margaret Brennan: And we are back with the senator from Minnesota Amy Klobuchar. She is a member of the Democratic leadership and she joins us this morning of Minneapolis. Hello to you, senator.

Sénable Klobuchar: Thank you, Margaret, great for being again.

Margaret Brennan: Well, we have just heard my colleague, Robert Costa, that the president told him the probability of a closure, and with this, potentially mass shots. Do you think it’s the posture, or are you afraid that your democratic colleagues enter a trap?

Sénable Klobuchar: I am happy that the president finally agreed to meet the management of the Congress. He canceled the meeting last week, which I think was a big mistake, because it is an opportunity for the country because of a big problem. And it is that the Republicans have created a health care crisis. My voters, the Americans are standing on a cliff at the moment with these increases in insurance premiums. Democrats are therefore united to push this and say: look, let’s do something about this crisis before it is too late. Seventy-five percent of bonuses from November 1, on people who are owners of small businesses, people who are farmers, twice as much in rural areas. It is therefore what it is for us, and the president is proud of the art of an agreement, it is the time for him to meet democrats and to conclude an agreement.

Margaret Brennan: These premiums therefore increase on November 1. You are talking about the extension of health care subsidies, but insurance companies provide that year, so these premiums are already assessed here. Why not accept –

Sénable Klobuchar:- Margaret, what we know is that these taxes–

Margaret Brennan:- Government–

Sénable Klobuchar: – If I could just, agree, move forward, tax credits are what could really make a difference here for people, because we know that these premiums struck on November 1. This is not something in December. This is not something in January. It is not a ramp out of the ramp. This is something we have to do now. As one of my farmers said that I met in the rural regions of Minnesota, looking at the president’s prices and looking at what happened in the agricultural country, a five -year -old summit in the bankrupt of a small farm, he said that it was a perfect ugly storm. This is where we are with the economy at the moment. And that is why we press what is one of the main cost engines for Americans, in addition to the prices of grocery store and electricity, these are health care.

Margaret Brennan: But to be clear, you cannot take over seven weeks and then negotiate this, you say that it must be agreed now.

Sénable Klobuchar: We think it’s a problem now, and even if we are impatient to speak with Senator Thune, I know that Senator Schumer must move this, in the end, we know that they are stamped in rubber for what the president wants. Not everyone is like Rand Paul who triggers in his own direction and spoke of the debt of the “great and beautiful bill”. I do not agree with a lot of what he says, but he is right about this debt. He is right on what happened with this bill, most of them will simply dab in rubber what President Trump says. This is why it was so important to obtain this meeting, and I hope he sees it, not as the president, not as a political theater, but as real people who face a crisis at the moment, whether in cities, the suburbs or rural areas of America.

Margaret Brennan: You sit on the judicial committee. So I want to ask you what’s going on right now. Earlier this month, the American lawyer in the Virginia eastern district, Eriksiebert resigned after failing to place a file against the New York Attorney General Letitia James. We just talked about her with Robert Costa. On Monday, Lindsey Halligan took an oath as an acting prosecutor for the Virginia Oriental District. She never continued a matter before. Three days in this new job, she advanced with the indictment of the former director of the FBI, James Comey, on two counts. Have you spoken to your republican colleagues of the judicial committee? Do they have concerns about what’s going on in Virginia?

Sénable klobuchar: Well, I plan to do it this week. And what I see, this as a former prosecutor myself, it is armament to the Ministry of Justice, essentially by doing a career prosecutor who was recommended by the Republican Governor of the State of Virginia, clearly a republican decision, which made a decision based on a period of month, made a decision. Then he pushed, forced to go out, so that the president could install his own help in work. When I questioned the Attorney General jumped during her confirmation hearing, she assured me that politics would not play a role that they would make independent decisions. This is not what it is. It is a prosecution of revenge. This is not the law.

Margaret Brennan: You also worked on the investigation on January 6, 2021 and the attack on the Capitol of the United States. Director of FBI, Kash Patel. Yesterday, said publicly that 274 FBI agents had been mentioned, “thrown into the control of the crowd that day against FBI standards”. President Trump also publicly said that FBI agents had acted as agitators who were secretly placed against all rules, regulations, protocols and standards in the front and during the attack. This contradicts what the Inspector General said in a published report which said that there was no evidence of infiltrated employees in the crowd, and that there were hundreds of special agents and employees who came after the Capitol Hill police asked them. This is now recently developed, because the president has emphasized it, what was the role of the FBI that day?

Sénable Klobuchar: I chaired the survey on security problems, along a bipartite survey with Senator Peters, then Senator Blunt and Senator Portman. It continued. We have had a number of open hearings, and we made major and major recommendations for changes to the Capitol and it has nowhere where the FBI acted as agitators. In fact, they were called when there was such a delay in the military fines to insist – to help what was essentially an insurrection, where more than 100 police officers were injured or mutilated due to this criminal activity in the Capitol. So I find it just appalling that the president would say that the FBI was part of it in a way. Kash Patel said that in fact, they were brought after the fact, but they were brought because we needed help. Senators, Republicans and Democrats called military leaders. They called the Attorney General. They asked for help because this help did not come to the Capitol. And everyone saw these facts.

Margaret Brennan: Senator, thank you for your insight there. We will look at what is going on here, when the president tweeted these two things, and in reference to the former director Chris Wray, we will be back with much more face of the nation. Stay with us.
