How do you buy World Cup tickets? The first presale begins this week

The first phase of sale of tickets for the next summer World Cup will open on Wednesday with a 10 -day presale that will give candidates the opportunity to buy up to four tickets each for 10 games.

Two other similar phases, the first taking place from the end of October to the beginning of December, will be followed by a phase at first arrival, first served after the draw in the World Cup in early December.

FIFA, the tournament organizer, said that around one million tickets would probably be available in the first phase of presale, a sixth of the total available for the entire tournament.

This World Cup, the second to play in the United States, will start on June 11 in Mexico City and will end at East Rutherford, NJ on July 19. Eight games will be played at the Sofi stadium in Inglewood, including the American team’s opening match on June 12 and their group game 13 days later.

The opponents of these games will not be determined before the draw, which will be held at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC

FIFA said prices will start $ 60 for some group tickets and will climb $ 6,730 for the final. It is four times the maximum price of regular ticket to the final of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, according to The Athletic.

Reception tickets for 2026 games, at costs ranging from $ 3,500 to $ 73,200 per person, are already on sale. A FIFA official said at a conference call with journalists last week that the world football director was expected to make more than $ 3 billion in hospitality and ticket sales and is convinced that the tournament would break the World Cup attendance record in 1994, the last time the competition took place in the United States

This 1994 World Cup presented only 24 teams and 52 games. The next summer tournament, which will be co-organized by Mexico and Canada, will be twice as important, with 48 teams and 104 games.

The prices of many games could change after the draw, because FIFA will use measures at variable prices, which means that the costs for more desirable games will increase once the games, the locations and the dates and determined.

“What FIFA is doing is adapting to the internal market,” said a FIFA official at the conference call. “It is a reality in the United States and Canada that events are assessed according to the demand that arrives for this event.”

FIFA has largely overestimated the request for tickets for the club World Cup from last summer in the United States, which crashes prices and forcing organizers to find creative means to fill empty seats. Dynamic World Cup prices could help this.

FIFA said that the initial ticket price will be divided into four categories, category 1 being the most expensive and the cheapest category 4.

To enter Wednesday’s opening ticket lottery, fans must have a visa card and must record their interest by creating an FIFA.com/tickets identity card. Fans can then connect to the same site between 8 a.m. on Wednesday September 10 and 8 a.m. on Friday September 19 to enter the draw. After a randomized selection process, the candidates selected will receive a date and an hour of purchase of tickets from October 1.

FIFA said that the time of entry of a fan in the draw for the presale would not have an impact on the chances of success, because the draw is random.
