“House of the Dragon” will end with S4

In 2024, shortly after the second season finale, “House of the Dragon” showrunner Ryan Condal indicated that the “Game of Thrones” spinoff would likely end with its fourth season.
He has now confirmed that the series will officially end with the show’s fourth season while appearing on the Escape Hatch podcast to talk about the difficulty of producing the third season coming this year.
Filming for the third season wrapped at the end of October and post-production is well underway. Condal then confirmed that writing for the fourth season had begun and that it would be the last broadcast of the series:
“We have rough cuts and first clips. I feel good. I’m walking a lot more now – I’m going to central London on foot and on the tube – which has been good for me. I really feel like we’ve turned a big page here. Knowing that there’s only one season left, I feel like we can leave everything out on the pitch. We’ve started the process of writing season 4, which will be the last.”
He teases that the upcoming third season is by far the biggest, one that has left him very creatively satisfied but also physically exhausted: He adds: “Now, having finished and seeing the first material coming in, there’s a real spring in my step. We’ve shot a gigantic series. I feel very optimistic about it.”
“House of the Dragon” season 3 will be released on HBO this year. Filming and releases for each season have occurred at a steady two-year pace, suggesting that filming for the fourth and final season will begin in early 2027 for release in 2028.
