The fate of a Conway woman is now in the hands of a jury from Horry County.
Meagan Jackson is tried standing for the death of Gregory Rice, the father of Jackson’s children.
Jackson is accused of having kidnapping and pulled from rice in October 2020. The authorities found the body of Rice along the small PEE Dee river near Pitts winning the 378 highway at the county of Horry / Marion about a month later.
Jackson chose not to testify in the case on Tuesday because the state and the defense rested their cases.
During the closing arguments, the state again said that this case was “a story as old as time” on a case and a pregnancy that led to the murder. The state also said that Jackson would be the only one to benefit from the murder of Rice.
Meanwhile, the defense claims that Jackson’s release of his affair with the former assistant coroner of the county of Horry and star witness Chris Dontell is not a crime and that the state cannot prove things that have occurred at the time of the crime, nor determine a crime scene.
The defense also alleged that the evidence in the case indicates that Dontell, who admitted to having helped to have the body of Rice, being the real killer.
The jury began to deliberate around noon on Tuesday.
