Horrible scenes!! Chamari Athapaththu stretchered after brutal injury during England-Sri Lanka World Cup clash

Horrific scenes unfolded during the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 clash between the Chamari Athapaththu-led Sri Lanka Women’s National Cricket Team and the Nat Sciver-Brunt-led England Women’s National Cricket Team.
Sri Lanka women’s national cricket team captain Chamari Athapaththu was sent off the field after suffering an injury at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on Saturday (October 11).

The skipper, Nat Sciver-Brunt, led from the front and played an incredible knock of 117. However, she did not receive good support from the other batters who fell foul of low scores.
While chasing the target, Sri Lanka got off to a horrible start as their skipper and best batter Chamari Athapaththu injured himself in the sixth over.
On the third ball of the over, Chamari Athapaththu swept a delivery for a single. After that, she fell flat on the ground and appeared to be in great pain. Additionally, the replay showed her limping while taking this single.
Physio immediately came to the middle and did some stretching, and as Athapaththu was writhing in pain, she was stretched off the field. SLC later released a statement saying the hitter was fine.
“Chamari Athapaththu is currently undergoing treatment for a cramp in her right leg which she experienced while batting in the ongoing match between Sri Lanka and England,” the SLC said in an official press release.

Very confident about my bowling unit – Chamari Athapaththu
Earlier, Sri Lanka Women won the toss and opted to bowl first in the match. Chamari Athapaththu said they have a lot of confidence in the bowling unit, which is quite experienced. She said:
“I want to bowl first. Very confident about my bowling unit. We have a good experienced bowling unit. Conditions are also good for spins. If we limit them to 200-240, it will be good. A change for us. We struggled with our batting in the middle. I have worked on it. Privilege for the whole team to play at home.”
Meanwhile, England women’s skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt expressed confidence in her team’s success by batting first against Sri Lanka. She said:
“I was going to bat, I’m quite happy with that. I think it will be good (the pitch). Third match on this pitch, so the idea was to bat first, and throughout the day, hopefully it will get slower and our spinners will come into the game. Same team. A brilliant all-rounder for us and is the balance of the team well (Capsey). We had a few rookies come in and help us in the nets (preparing against the arms left). I’m definitely not taking anything. slightly. They have brilliant match winners in their side and excellent control with their spinners in the middle. ยป
