MEDICAID state expansion decisions

The extension of Medicaid of the Acting on Affordable Care (ACA) has widened the coverage of Medicaid to almost all adults with income up to 138% of the level of federal poverty ($ 21,597 for an individual in 2025) and provided states with an improved federal correspondence rate (FMAP) for its expansion populations.

To date, 41 states (including DC) have adopted The expansion of Medicaid and 10 states did not adopt expansion. The current state of each state is based on the monitoring and analysis of KFF of the state expansion activity.
